So, is this something to do with the synology or the way the external drive is formatted? I see that it only happens with MKVs. I’m going to try to see the hidden files and try to delete them.

That is what I was googling.

Coding just needs to go into Emby to avoid these rogue files.

I see. Could the Emby Team potentially add the ability to avoid these files in a future update? I have a windows computer, so I will just try viewing and then deleting them on there just so it's easier and faster.

I guess I can't view the file system on my windows computer because I don't have the Synology system setup to view on windows from what I just searched. I will try on the actual Synology system then my Mac if that doesn't work.

So, I can see a file on the Synology that shows a DS Store File. Is this the file I should delete?

It also seems to now be happening with .mp4 files now too.

Ok, so I can see the one hidden file on my Mac for the Apollo 11 movie, but the other movies that have the same problem don't have any other hidden files.

There is the hidden version of Cars 3 (note the file name).

Ok, but I can’t see the hidden file even after I was able to see the other hidden files on my Mac vie that website. What do I do next since I can’t see the file on my Mac?

Does anyone know a fix for this? I can’t see some of the hidden files even though I have enabled to see hidden files on my Mac. The Synology doesn’t see them for specific movies either.

Thoughts?

Ok, so I am doing some testing and when I moved the actual movie file out of the folder (Apollo 11) into just the open Movie space, I refreshed my movie library and was able to watch the movie and it shows the path to the file without the folder of course. What does this mean?

Just mean whichever system is creating the items the start with a period is causing havoc with Emby.

So, you’re saying my external hard drive connected to my Synology is creating this problem?

Strange, I tried simulating this with a file like that and could not reproduce. @Happy2Play can you?

From a Windows perspective no on a file named "._Cars 3 (2017.mkv" but yes from a file named ".Cars 3 (2017).mkv".

With ".Cars 3 (2017).mkv" the actual item shows up as additional parts.

On windows we don't ignore file names that start with a ., although i guess we could start doing that.

@Vinnie Sims  What server version are you on?

@Luke I can reproduce "._named files.ext" on Windows 4.1.1.0 so this could be a version issue.

Some issue discussion here also.  So are these in addition to the .DS_STORE?

Looks like same or similar discussion here

@Luke @Happy2Play - Thanks for trying to troubleshot and recreate the issue. I’m glad it’s not just me.

Can you guys implement something to avoid reading these ._ files plus any others that cause issues like this?

My Emby Server Version is 4.1.1.0 and is running on my Synology DS918+ NAS.

I believe this issue is resolved in 4.2.  As I do not see it in my testing.  I assumed you were on the beta build since the topic is in the testing area.

That’s sounds like good news that it is resolved in 4.2. Any ETA on release date? I’m not running on the beta, and I apologize for posting in the wrong spot, I just couldn’t find a spot to where to post my question that would best fit in the other topics.
