Hello.

So, I have my Emby Server up and running and for some reason when I add new movies or movies that have been there to my library already, I get a "Additional Parts" section for the whole movie. I have named everything correctly with what it says from Emby with the 'name of movie (year)' and still getting "Additional Parts" section. I just tried adding a Apollo 11 movie today and it's giving me the same result. I add metadata to local MKV file itself, but I tried removing it, and it still did not work.

Any help please?

Thanks!

Hi.  Can you please show us your file structure and how you configured the library?

Thanks.

How about a screenshot of the content in the Apollo 11 folder.

Sure, it is exactly the same, but here you go...

I've noticed that on Emby it shows a dot with an underline before the actual movie like this ._ for some MKV files as shown in the photo...

What's that mean? There is only one file in for each folder that has the exact naming.

Ok, so it's hidden from our eyes but the system can see it. How do we fix this? And is this what is causing the issue? I have other MKVs that are doing the same thing...

The hidden files probably start with a dot.  That's used on a lot of file systems.  In your case probably  " ._"

Double check your folders contents size and the contents you have.

If you are on a windows system, you can click in file explorer VIEW, the tick the hidden files box - it certainly looks like you have two copies of the movie.

When reading the file system in code (which Emby does) it can read hidden files, but playback via a player probably can't.5d114ebf25ca3_hidden.png

Is this possibly a software fix or still something on my end?

I am on a Mac, how do I read this on my Mac and remove the extra hidden file?

What OS is your Media on?

What ever it is it is creating the ._Apollo 11 (2019).mkv, pretty sure there are other topics on this issue also.

My Emby server is running on a Synology DS918+ which I have a external drive hooked up to it via USB which I use that as the main media source and then the actual hard drive in the Synology as for recording live tv for now.

It is Emby reading all content in the folder whether it is hidden or not.  Since Emby has the ability to hide metadata and images.  This is a specific OS issue as only that OS creates these rogue ._name.ext files.
