DLNA playback from android TV app

Would it be possible to use the android TV app to trigger playback to another device using DLNA?

I use the nvidia shield for all of my playback but I have some files which can only be played using the internal player on my LG TV (dolby vision mp4 remuxes), so for these files I'd like to trigger playback to the TV using DLNA.

I don't want to use the emby app on the TV as it is a lot slower than the shield and the TV can't play a lot of things the shield can.

Sorry, no, there is no way to do this at this time.

Why won't the Shield play these particular items?

You can use the web app or one of our mobile apps to play to other devices. Can we please look at an example of an Android TV playback problem you're having? We're happy to help with that. Thanks.

These are dual layer dolby vision mp4s created from UHD blu-rays using dolby's mp4 muxer.

The shield doesn't support dolby vision so can't play them, in fact the only thing that can is the TV's internal player or some UHD players like the Oppo 203. AFAIK there are no other devices capable of dual layer dolby vision decoding (the apple TV or fire TV can do single layer only).

As I said, I don't think there's any way you can get this to work, the shield simply doesn't support dolby vision, and even devices that do like the apple tv only support single layer, not dual.

Okay, I just wanted to check because we just updated the player and it did have a note about supporting DV in mp4.  Probably just single layer as you surmised.
