TV Guide Customization

Hey All, New Emby user here and this is my first post so please go easy on the new guy! :)

I was wondering if it is possible to customize the TV Guide in the Live TV section? Currently I have an IPTV service connected to Emby and it's working flawlessly. The only problem I am having is that there are just waaaaay too many channels that we never watch. I would like to be able to strip the TV guide down to only show the channels that we would actually watch. If that is possible, the next step would be for me to be able to order the TV Guide in the order I would like.

Are either of these possible?

Thanks!

Scott

Hi.  You can edit the m3u that your provider is giving you to contain only the channels you wish to see or you could use Parental controls or block by tag to hide channels inside Emby.  Editing the m3u is probably the easiest.

Thanks ebr. The m3u I am using is just a link to a location on the web. Not sure how to obtain the actual file itself. If I 'were' to be able to obtain it, would I then have to point Emby to the file that is now hosted somewhere on my network?

Also, if I edit the file to only include the channels I want, will the TV Guide still show the channels but without a program description, or will it remove the channel from the TV Guide completely?

You could download it to a file and then point Emby server to that file instead of the original url. The downside of doing that is that you'll need to keep the file up to date with changes made to the original source.

Yes the guide can show it without programs.

Ok, so maybe I'm not following? I downloaded the m3u document, and I edited it to only contain 5 or 6 channels, then I uploaded it to Emby to see if the Guide would now only show those 5 or 6 channels. No joy. I'm still seeing all of the channels. Am I missing something?

Have you tried Refresh Guide under Scheduled Tasks ?

I have, yes. Do I have to do anything with the EPG location I am pointing to?

Ok, so I deleted the EPG link and the re-added it, and it appears to have taken effect as expected now. So now it's the painstaking task of combing through 2,500 plus channels to find the ones I want! :)

Does the order of the m3u file relate to the order as it's shown on the TV Guide? So If I order them a certain way they will show on the guide in that same order?

Am sure people who know what they're talking about will contribute, but the guide has options under that three dotted thing (top left corner) to sort by Channel Number or Recently Watched, so it basically sorts by channel number.

If you've downloaded an m3u file and you're going through that I guess its best to chuck out what you don't want and edit the remaining channel numbers or add your own. I just put 'channel-id="1001"' near the beginning of each entry, using whatever number you fancy.

Good day Scotty...Just caught a glimpse of your situation. As Arrbee noted above in postt #5, I have been documenting my progress for Live TV setup. One of the issues you expressed was having too many channels. That was mine too as I received of 27K channels from my provider. Now I got that down to about 900+ (still too many) but I am continuing to edit those down. I used a proggy called IPTV Editor by Tantrum and it worked wonders for me. This was the only proggy I could find that I could actually use to edit my m3u and my xml file. It is free so google it and give it a go. I changed all my channel numbers and put them in the order I wanted, added my own custom channel logos, created, edited and deleted groups, reordered each stream within their respective group and so much more. Until the Emby Team comes out with their channel management tool (hopefully soon) this was the best thing I could find. I tried xTeve but couldn't figure it out maybe you will have better luck but for me Tantrum did it. Cheers...

I use this preprocessor and it works very well. It allows you to filter as well as reorder/renumber the channels that you want. Bonus, it's free :)

It also allows you to filter out entire blocks of channels by countries.
