horstepipe 356
Hey Similar to this https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/66681-nvidia-shield-tv-playback-will-pause-constantly/page-1 I’m experiencing this problem on my new Fire TV stick 4K. Yes, the bitrate is quite high (31 Mbit/s), but it plays back fine in Kodi on the same device. The stream comes from an external source but it definitely supplies enough bandwidth. I sent the log via app with normal buffer settings. I also tried the high buffer settings, the freezes happened less often there. Would it be possible to add an even higher buffer settings to the beta build for testing?
ebr 14850
I’m experiencing this problem on my new Fire TV stick 4K. Yes, the bitrate is quite high (31 Mbit/s), That is well above the published (or, at least, used to be published) supported maximum on the Fire devices (21Mb). I sent the log via app with normal buffer settings. Can you please supply the requested information so I can find that? Thanks.
horstepipe 356
That is well above the published (or, at least, used to be published) supported maximum on the Fire devices (21Mb). Where is this published, I can’t believe that lol. The stick calls itself ‚4K‘, if a 4k stream only has a Bitrate of 21Mbit it is a bad 4K stream imo. I sent the log immediately before I made the post, user is Testdummy
ebr 14850
Where is this published, I can’t believe that lol. Here. For HEVC that particular model says 35Mb. For H.264 it is only 20. You have to realize that these devices are created for the specific purpose of streaming content off the internet - in this case, specifically from Amazon - and most of that content is . I think you've just pushed the device to its limit. In your log I can see it buffering and dropping frames. You are also decoding a DTS stream within the app on the device at the same time which shouldn't be hard but is just additional work the device isn't really expecting to be doing. horstepipe 356
My high bitrate movies are all hevc, so the particular stream is hevc, too. So the limit is not being exceeded. Also Kodi (with Emby for Kodi) has no problems with the same file (remote direct playing it too, same like the emby app)
ebr 14850
The 31Mb number you are looking at is an average bitrate - not necessarily the peak for the item. Also, at 31 you are still pushing to the limit - especially with the additional processing of the audio going on (the device does not support DTS at all). Kodi is not an Android app per se as it is written in a lower level language to the underlying core of the OS (which is Linux) so it is possible that it could perform better in these "at or near the limit" scenarios.
horstepipe 356
Understood, thanks! Mhh pity, I was really looking forward to give this device with emby to my non techy users. Do you have any other Hardware recommendation for your app which would fit my needs? Guess the shield can handle it, but it’s quite expensive. ebr 14850
The 4K stick is a great device - especially for the price. I would think setting a bitrate limit of 20 or 30 might have it perform just fine on these.
Luke 36877
Is this still an issue?
markkundinger 2
yes Luke the problem stil exists. Just jumping this thread because it was the first hit that came up on google. Using a Fire Stick 4k, it looks like my 4k media starts to stutter or pause somewhere below 44mbps bit rate (Avengers Endgame) and gets worse with higher bitrate material. And 1080p H.264 media experiences stutters somewhere between 27.5mbps (Wolf Children) and 28.1 mbps (Detective Pikachu). This is using server 4.1.30 and Fire TV client 1.7.53a And selecting the audio downmix to stereo on the client was crucial! at least for my use on my basic television. neik 834
Your media is above supported bitrate for the 4k FTVS. https://developer.amazon.com/de/docs/fire-tv/device-specifications-fire-tv-stick.html So, this might be related. ;-)
