How to play downloaded audio (music)

So my wife has an ipad with emby loaded onto it. It is wifi only. She wants to download some music type files to play on the road. If she downloads or syncs the files on the ipad, where do they reside (and whats the difference between the two)? How can she play them? Inside emby or using a seperate player? Maybe this is obvious, but I rarely have access to her ipad and can't experiment.

Thanks!

Hi, the app has a My Downloads section on the home screen, this is where you would play from. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.

Thank you Luke. I just got hold of the iPad and was able to play downloaded audio tracks while in airplane mode. :)  Unfortunately I played with the server settings in "Download & Sync" by setting the quality to "Original" before remembering that the Apple equipment probably doesn't play mp3. I saw the note that stated it will the "Original" setting will transfer to the device whether it will play it or not". So I need to change it back. What would be the best default setting for downloading mp3 files to an IOS device from the Emby server (these are only 64-128K quality mp3 files).

Thanks!

We're embedding a custom player that can handle just about any format. mp3 will be fine.

Sweet will that custom audio player be able to play opus? Also it’d be wonderful if we could choose to convert to 96kpbs opus instead of mp3 while downloading. Most of my mp3s are 320kpbs and it’s usually a 3 times file size reduction. If Emby ultimately can play opus then I’ll convert my entire music library to opus 96kpbs. Currently I use $7 app called Neutron which claims to support opus but evidently it isn’t at least it my testing. But it’s a pretty nice player. I’ll add another thread under feature requests cuz once hopefully if added to a Emby I can ditch the other music apps. Here’s to hoping and praying on a prayer.

Yes all Emby apps can play opus, and in fact, most of them without transcoding.

Currently if music needs conversion for the download feature then mp3 is used. We could explore using opus for the space savings.

My wife also likes to listen music at home, especially during cleaning up. However, to explain her how to use Spotify or iTunes, is an impossible aim. She is used to use YouTube, but there isn't possible to create your own playlist of favorite tracks. We have found a really easy solution, I have installed on your phone youtubemp3. It is a YouTube mp4 to mp3 converter. She need just to copy the link of the song and to insert it in the app. It automatically appears in her music gallery. She is totally satisfied with using it. Think that your wife also would like it
