Please test searching in this beta as I've updated the API for it.

Thanks.

Has anyone tested searching?

Not yet. I generally do not search as that is not really how I use Emby. But I will test if you want. What, in general terms, should I search for and where should I search?

All search logic was changed in the app.

There is "logic" in the searching? There go all my illusions.

I will make some test searches shortly.

This is om my Fire TV 4K Stick,

I do not know if this is correct behavior or not but I searched for "bat" and came up with several rows of results.

1. the first row was reasonable and listed as "Episodes" and all the listed episodes had "bat" as the first three letters.

2. the second row did not say what it was except for the word "Empty" and had a single icon saying "No Items"

3. the third row was a list of movies starting with "Bat" again perfectly reasonable

4. Fourth was "Series" and that looked fine

5, Fifth was "Songs" again OK

6. Sixth was "People" and I guess it was fine as well although I would never use a search for that

That was what I saw. The only anomaly was that second row. It seems that if a row is to be empty it should at least say what is missing or it should not show at all.

I hope that gives a little of the feedback you need.

OH: I would think that "Collections" should be included in searches.

I performed a few different searches. All were successful in finding the various items.

I did note - Kind of slow/sluggish behavior. I don't know if that is normal, I would say it was typical for when I do a search on the server PC (normally in the EPG) some times it is quick, some times there is a bit of a wait for it to find things.

700 MB library of 41000+ episodes, 3900+ movies, 950+ mp3's

Just a heads up. Search now has problems for me to the point that it will hang the app on my FireTV. I'll try to get you more info later today.

@ebr I thought it was hung on my Shield also - but it did eventually complete each search. Thought @davidtjudd described it better than I did.

This is very reminiscent of the bug a while back where android clients were being really aggressive in calling the search immediately for every char as you typed and grinding everything to a halt.

What I've noticed.

Search in general seems slower since .11.

Searching on FireTV is pretty much unusable since the .22 client.

My wife started complaining about it last night while trying to search for Chernobyl. She typed in "cher", got a lot of freezing and eventually it displayed results with "ch", then "che". She was unable to navigate and I had her kill the app and repeat with similar results. At which point I decided to pull it up on my phone and cast to the FireTv. Results on my phone were unresponsive as well until she killed the FireTv app again.

@ebr, I think you still have access to my serv if you need help with a repro.

Collections are already included in the "Movie" line.  That is, assuming the server returns them...

Nothing changed on the app side at that point.

Searching on FireTV is pretty much unusable since the .22 client.

That's counter to what I would have hoped since before it was using the old and deprecated version of search and now it is using the new and improved version...

it displayed results with "ch", then "che".

Hmmm... The app doesn't search for anything less than three chars...

I think, in the case of non-speech input, I need to just force you to hit "okay" for the search.

In the middle of typing that last reply my wife messaged me saying emby was down. From the web client I could login and go to the admin dashboard but it hung displaying libraries. Emby also hung restarting from the dashboard and I had to remote in and kill the task. Once emby restarted, it was snappy again. I think this might have to do with server .11 or .12.

I can't say it is client or server related. I will say that searching from FireTv worked rock solid until a day or two ago so unless you changed how input is submitted I wouldn't try to fix it that way.

I just tested 22g then did the client update using .11 server and had no problems.  Then updated the server and still have no problems with results other than the new order of results.

I must say I don't like the order being presented on screen.  For example a search for "Top G" which was going to be top gun returned:

Series

Empty

Programs

People

Movies

Episodes

To me the ordering should be fixed and at least start off with

Movies

Series

People

Personally I would think when people search for something it's either a movie name, show name or person so those should be shown first.

Right now, the order is undefined as rows are added as soon as the query returns.

The alternatives (to get fixed ordering) would be to serialize the requests (making it all slower probably) or have empty rows show up until they are either filled in or deleted...
