Nvidia Shield - Images not loading

Hi there,

I am currently having an issue with the latest update 1.7.21 - actually this is a recurring issue.

With the version before 1.7.21 everything worked fine but before that one I had the same behavior.

As you can see in the photo attached, images are not loading up - no matter what I do in the Android TV app.

Tried deleting cache, reinstalling, changing themes, etc. but nothing helps.

This only happens on the first login after power up.

I did find a workaround, as soon as I manually restart my server and login again to the Android TV app everything works fine.

Haven't found anyone else with this issue, any idea what the issue could be?

Thanks

Jay

This only happens on the first login after power up.

After which piece is powered up?  The Shield or the server?

Hi there, how does this compare to the web interface?

Web, iOS and Android Mobile work flawlessly, no issues there.

The Shield. Server is usually running before the Shield is powered up and powered down at night - so the server is cold started on a daily basis.

You are actually removing power from the Shield externally?  To my knowledge there is no way to actually turn it off.

I am using a harmony remote which has a power off option for the shield. If I am not mistaken this actually brings the shield to a defined sleep state. After roughly 30 seconds I am removing power for all connected devices via a IR power plug. This has been working for roughly a year now.

Only wirh the latest version and two versions before I am having those issues.

And only on the first power up cycle. If I then close and open Emby everything works fine.

Powering up the server After the shield has the same effect.

Okay, I would suggest not removing power from the Shield.  It's sleep state will not consume any noticeable power.  This sounds like a timing issue with getting all the network stuff going on both ends.  These streaming boxes aren't really designed to be removed from power - just to sleep.

Just looked it up, it consumes around 4 watts in sleep mode which is in my opinion quite a lot for doing nothing :-)

Strangely this whole powering down and up again worked for me for until lately - anything drastically changed in the code?

I would also be happy with a workaround like adding a server restart button inside the Anroid App or is this already possible somehow?

Did not find this function yet.

So what's happening here, you're starting the app first and the server, is that correct? I don't see how that would be a problem because looking at your screenshots, you wouldn't even be able to get the home screen to load if the app couldn't reach the server. Can you please attach the emby server log from when this happens? Thanks.

I was talking about the shield, not the app itself. I am usually starting the shield first, then sometime later the server and then the emby app.

I hope this is the correct log file. Thanks

Is it possible you have a drive sleeping and it is taking a while to spin up...?

Just had a look at the library and indeed some folders were missing / deleted.

I just removed them from emby as well.

Started the shield, then few minutes later the server and its working.

Not sure if this is just a coincidence or really because of the missing folders.

Will report back when I know more.

I have started to get missing poster artwork for some movies in the Emby apps on both a Shield and a Mibox, the images are there for every other device including the Android app on my phone, Kodi with Embycon, web browsers etc. The server is a remote server. It's very strange that it's only affecting Android Tv devices

I don't see anything in the server log that would indicate a problem.  It looks like the images simply aren't loading on the client end - however, that is assuming we're looking at the same image requests...

Can you please create the issue and then send a log from the app?

Thanks.

The last action in this log should be connecting the Shield app and scrolling down through movies by these missing posters

I've just sent another. I started the app and at 10.48 I logged in as colfin22, I opened movies and scrolled past these missing movie posters

Thanks.  Luke, I'm seeing this at the client end:

Cause (1 of 1): class java.io.IOException: File unsuitable for memory mapping

And some research produced:

for the record - this can happen if you save jpgs as pngs without doing a conversion it seems like

Could it be our method of caching the images that is an issue?

Pog - can I please see the server log that matches up with that last app log you sent?
