Dear Emby-Team!

Would it be possible to implement direct music streaming to Apple Watch? Thus I could listen to my music during sports, travelling, whatever without taking my iPhone with me. As far as I know, streamkit which was introduced with WatchOS5, allows for direct music streaming to the watch!

Besides the requested control features for the Emby-Clients this would be an awesome feature for an Emby companion app for the Apple Watch.

Please make this dream come true :)

How would you start playing?

....directly on the watch. For example for AppleMusic you open the app on the watch and you can pick then from a menu, if you want to choose from playlists, Artists, Albums, etc. Sound will be output to any connected bluetooth-speaker.

9to5mac had an article about this... https://9to5mac.com/2018/03/30/how-to-stream-apple-music-lte-apple-watch-no-iphone/

Would this require an iphone or ipad as a companion, so that the watch first gets information from that? Or would this be fully standalone? In other words, how would it know how to connect to your emby server? Would you go through that initial connection process directly on the watch?

Pretty sure the watch-app would be the companion app to the current Emby-app on iPhone. You can't even configure an Apple Watch w/o an iPhone and currently the watch apps are installed via the iPhone, but this is rumored to change from WatchOS6 on....but for now: Companion-App!

Hi, is it possible to expand on the functionality of the Apple Watch application to allow for more controls: currently I’m unable to navigate with “next” or “previous” but just start a song and let it do its thing. One of the primary reasons I invested in Emby was because of the Apple Watch support but it seems quite limited. I also seen mention of potentially being able to download music media directly to the watch for offline playback, has any further progress been made?

Currently I am able to stream directly to my Apple Watch (cellular) but this requires remote access, I’d like to easily be able to swap music from Emby to my Watch when I choose for offline playback for a phone free experience.

Thank you.

Hi! New to Emby, coming from an alternative server option. I was also hoping to be able to download music/audio books to the Apple Watch to be able to listen to them without having a phone or cell service for the watch. I was just wondering if this was still in the works or being looked into. Love what I’m seeing with Emby so far! This feature would make it amazing IMO. Thanks!

I've periodically checked back from to time to see if there has been any update on this, it's nice to know it's still something that's being worked on. It's also good to see that others want the same feature.

Cheers.

  • Thanks 1
