I too am having trouble with this paid plugin, it could be awesome if it worked, it also told me that I haven't set up my ip address. is there a set up guide from the developer?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Playon plugin a few times. It launches and shows no content for any of the categories. I have put in the IP address of the server and I have tried it with the Playon port, but it still doesn’t pull anything over. What am I missing?

I actually made progress. I set the IP address to m.playon.tv and internet channels started populating in Netflix. Now when I try to play fromNetflix via Playon I get the following in the log

Well, the update on this is that at least we are more or less past the initial error of Invalid URI: The hostname could not be parsed. That being said it is still not working properly.

So @@snazy2000 had me follow these steps:

  • Shutdown the Emby server
  • Go to the ~AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\plugins\configurations folder and delete the MediaBrowser.Channels.PlayOn.xml file.
  • Start Emby again
  • Go to the server configuration, plugins, PlayOn config and enter 127.0.0.1 on the PlayOn IP text box (my PlayOn server runs on the same machine as the Emby server, otherwise enter the appropriate IP for your own server).
  • Go to Scheduled Tasks and execute the Refresh Internet Channels task.

At this point Emby is hitting the PlayOn server and pulling channels and programming just fine. So things are looking up.

After about 2 hours something happened (don't know what, this is the current issue) and the Emby log shows timeouts while it is continuing to pull data from PlayOn. After a few timeout errors we again see the URI errors and then the Refresh task stopped.

Regardless, I decided to try to playback something from Netflix. Went to Home, then PlayOn, All, this time I could see my channels (before I only saw the one icon telling me that I had not yet entered the server's IP. I selected Netflix and then a movie. Playback seemed to start but eventually failed with the error "No compatible streams are currently available".

It is late at night were Snazy lives, so I won't be able to work with him until tomorrow. For now, I'm trying one more time following the same steps. However, the difference now is that I've removed all channels on the PlayOn server config except for Netflix. Hopefully this way I won't hit that timeout error.

I edited MediaBrowser.Channels.PlayOn.xml with notepad ++ trying both 127.0.0.1 and local host. In both cases I put in the PlayOn port number. Should I not do that?

I’ve done all of that at least a dozen times, my channels don’t load or videos won’t play. The Kodi Playon works flawlessly, but I love the look and feel of Emby better. Maybe one day...

So last week I installed a new hard dive (SSD) on my server & had to reinstall everything. First time I ran playon it told me i had an incorrect ip address. So I uninstalled the plug in & reinstalled it again & now I only have folders without images & when I click on the folder, it tells me its empty. I had issues with playon going back but decided to wait til I installed my new hard drive but I still have an issue. I really do believe this plug in should be re written so it works correctly like all the other plug ins. Its always an issue.

I too got this plugin and wanted so badly to have it work but it does not.

If he cant get it fixed and working should it still be in the plugins catalog?

I mean people keep paying for it and it doesn't work.

I have the same issue as most of everyone else.

I can set it up and even get it to populate but it doesn't run anything I get the error message that there aren't any compatible streams.

and even that is after several minutes of it trying (the busy rotating circle)

+1,

I reloaded it last night hoping that the previous problems had been fixed.  No dice, still the same.  All channels show but when entering any of the available channels (Netflix, Prime, Disney+, AT&T TV) there is no content...just the message that says "no content available".  I previously uninstalled because of this issue back during the winter.  6 months later no change.  To be fair, PlayOn itself is really no better.  I can view content from AT&T TV while in PlayOn but I can't record it which totally defeats the purpose for buying PlayOn.  It was the only content that I wanted to record and it can't do it.  It also won't let me login to my HBOMax account.  Luckily I am still logged in through HBOGo and that still works.  Same login credentials, Go works but Max doesn't ...huh what is the world coming to?!?!?!?

Playon doesn't really support the PC Based model anymore. They want a continuous cash flow from cloud based recordings.

It's odd because "almost" everything else that I'm subscribed to works in PlayOn (in terms of recording) except for the one thing that I need it for which is AT&T TV. I can record from Netflix no problem, I can record from Prime no problem and same for the one or two network channels that I care about.  But with AT&T TV I can view the content no problem just can't record it.  With HBOMax I can't even log in so I can't view or record that.  I did not try to test record anything on HBOGo which I still have access so maybe I'll check that tonight to see if records or not. It just illustrates my unique luck with all of these new technologies...they work...except for exactly how I want or need them to.

And because of a few little nits here and there, Emby is the same.  It almost works exactly like I want it to...except for those one or two little things that it can't do and it just totally deflates the whole experience.  Plex is no better. WMC7/10 is no better.  HDHomeRun is no better. ChannelsDVR is no better. Everyone has a little piece that does something outstanding that I really really like but they all fall short on something and no one can just be all encompassing.  It's sad and frustrating all together.  Same with the hardware; smart tvs, almost not quite; Android TV/Fire boxes, almost not quite. Rokus almost not quite. HTPCs almost not quite.  Haven't tried Apple TV boxes so don't know, but they sound a lot like Android and Fire boxes judging from the problems I see here and at AVS Forum, so evidently almost but not quite.

Ho hum...

It would be nice if the playon  plugin worked . I only had it work once and that was before emby 4.0 came out . It's a shame cause it was a great plugin.  But it seems the developer abandoned this project . I've tired to message him and Luke mentioned his name a couple fo times here by snazzy never responds..  its a shame cause the plugin has so much potential.  The regular playon works great on the PC app either desktop version or cloud versioni  Well I hope to see it come back working and  as well as a walk-through on the setup process

Because Everytime I tried to setup using the playon up it always says  no content or please setup up.. .

Please  snazzy revisit your project

I'm having the same issues everyone else in this thread  is having..

I think it's high time that the plugin be removed until it works, I've not seen a single person report success.

I can see my list of channels but they are all "empty" .. nothing works.. everyone seems to end up at the same result, I've deleted the .xml file and put in 127.0.0.1 since Playon resides on the same server which is what allowed me to see my icons, but the plugin dev doesn't seem interested in fixing it.

Again.. it should be removed until it works properly, otherwise money is just being taken.

Of course, there are few threads from the thousands of people who don't have the same issue happening with their Emby.

To try and find what's different in your case, what will be most helpful is not lists of other servers, but logs covering times that the the problem was happening.  Work with the staff here, and in turn they will work with you to try to find a solution - and that solution is not necessarily to force transcoding by an option, as it would be better to understand what is actually causing your problem and fix that so that you don't need to use an option.

Paul

With that logic you could say there are billions of people not reporting issues ..   I've reported it long ago, there's lots of posts about it..   PS. I tried JellyFin which is a fork of Emby and it too doesn't have these playback issues so it seems to be specific to either Emby or the Emby Clients..  I would switch to JellyFin but it's not as mature in features as it's sibling Emby so it's not feasable for me.

I see the issue go away with updates sometimes.. but then they crop back up with nothing else having been changed..  it's an issue, and the issue hasn't been identified.. I've instead given up on trying to deal with solving it because it's always a brick wall, now I just load up playon which I prefer not to do because I don't like how open DLNA is.. but Playon has no such issues.

I prefer Emby over Playon but I will start it up when Emby is once again problematic.. Oddly the issues are a bit less as of a week or so ago, which lines up to a new release of Emby Server  (Dec. 4th 2020).. I hardly find that coincidental, could be.. but odd that playback has smoothed out for me after a new update.

I’m going to chime back in. As everyone can see from above I have not heard any response from snazzy or what could be going on from posting logs, etc back in May of last year.

Welcome to the world of not getting resolutions to long held problems :) .. hate to say it.. but the forums are FULL of us

Anger doesn't help.. probably hurts.. so I'm refraining from that anymore and just hope that some decade they resolve the  many years old issues :)

Just for everyone reading the PlayOn plugin is not an Emby product. It is developed by a third party community developer.

All,

I have read most of this thread.  Looking for recommendation from admin on the Playon plugin. Understanding this is plugin is 3rd party without developer support, should I abandon any attempts to get this to work?

In short, is the general consensus not to invest any time trying get this plugin to work?  I just setup my entire Playon account and was going to start configuring this plugin.

But now I need to know that my efforts will be futile.

Thx

Bruce

I've given up.. I now just record with PlayOn and then have MCEBuddy strip commercials, if any, and compress to HEVC then drop the files into my library.

I believe this issue stems from the fact that if you look at the PlayOn settings, there no longer exists a setting for a port to forward.
