Anyway to navigate the movies from the movie description screen

Maybe there is a way to do this but i am searching a way to navigate the movies not from the movies thumbnail icons where we are seeing almost nothing in the movie description, but from movie description screen itself (the screen where we are seeing the complete movie detail including the buttons to play the movie, mark it as played or favorite).

For example, lets say that i am choosing a movie icon, clicking on it with the select button and then i can see the complete movie description. From there i want to have the minimum buttons to push to change to the next movie and stays in the same movie detailed description screen.

The reason i am asking for this is very often the thumnail view does not give movie description enough detail to be very usefull. So i am entering the full detail screen, than i am returning back to select the next movie icon, entering again in details screen and so on. Very cumbersome process. I have seen other media app that could directly navigate from movie to movie in the movie detailed screen itself.

Thanks for any info

Indeed. You mean there are no overlays giving a bit of the information from the item. The home screen and the grid screen (at the very least) both need a way that visually gives users a way to see what they are hovering on and a bit more information I agree. In fact we were already in this area before.

I agree. Let me thumbs up your post sir. :)

The behavior you mention with left/right on the detail screen was the Blue Neon Night app. You could use left/right in that app to go to the prev/next in the row on the detail screen. But it only had a list of buttons going up/down so made this easier to do.

In the present app there is more navigation allowed. We could do this but we would need to have buttons on screen you navigate to. Or possibly we could use the rewind << and fast foward buttons >> to do it from the detail screen. We have other things planned first that must be done but after all that we can circle back to this and touch up the navigation behavior on the detail screen. That is entirely possibly. I can update the feature tracker to include this thread as well and links back to here so they know it has had activity. The more active bugs/features are on the tracker the higher the priority unless explicitly given a priority. You scratch the more recent itch first.

Maybe i should give a little more detail about the limitation:

when you enter the movie library, you could see by default latest movie icons row and then recommendation icon row of the movie. If you navigate these rows, this is not so bad as you could see at the top a description for the movie which some time may miss a part of it if the description is too long, but this is not too bad most of the time to give a feeling of the movie we want to see.

The problem is if you want to navigate all the movies, i usually click on the "movie" button in the movie library section to see a list of all movies alphabetically sorted where we can only see the movie icons and no description at all! To see the description, we need to select the movie and enter it to see the detailed screen and then return to the all movie alphabetic list to go to the next movie icon and so forth. Very poor navigation mode in this case :(

If the all movie list could browse the movies icons with a description at the top like the suggested movie list (or latest movie list icons), it would be a real improvement. Or browsing from the detail screen itself as explained above. Looking deeper into this, i noticed that when the description is long, it could not be seen completly no matter where you are looking at it (there is no extra button possible to scroll the complete movie detail neither when it is longer than usual).

Thanks

Yep the "Show Full Overview" button where the overview itself becomes a button and highlights itself and you click and this expands into a popout dialog scroller. We have this in the works too I can give that much away. That is coming and for the most part completed. It also might have a "Read Overview" button on top of the overview once selected.

Did you know the Roku could read the overview to you? We might do that just because it is a technology demonstration. I actually have a working proof-of-concept that does this very thing. This is what is actually holding up the show overview making it into the app. We need to finalize our decision on "Do we let the Roku talk?".

What do you think? Should we let the Roku talk? When it speaks the overview it will have a limit of how much it can speak and will politely say after it says that much "I am sorry. This is so long I am going to stop reading now.". This is useful to me for small children who cannot read. People with vision/reading problems. They can learn the motions to navigate to the read overview button (it has a speaker icon to make it intuitive what it does) and then hear the overview read to them. The only issue is the speaking only happens in English. This can teach non English speakers how to speak English. The Roku will "try" to pronounce foreign text but it might/probably does sound wrong. It only knows English inflection on the voice but does know how to read any language as phonemes.

Some might say it is gimmicky. But most might use it occasionally. It beats reading when the device can do the reading for you. These are the creative things that I will obnoxiously be doing. Taking it to another level and making the most of the devices capabilities. So should the Roku talk?

So should the Roku talk?

Unfortunatly, i am foreign language and this is little use and too much time to wait each movie description being read and difficult to be understood. It is much more faster to read the description myself (and we do not necessary read all the description as soon as we have enough info). Much more important is to repair the all movie alphabetic movie icons menu so it could be possible to directly see the description (which is a major weakness) or to allow movie navigation in the detail screen as an alternate.

Those are easily doable but there is already work ongoing in other areas and other users have feature requests too. So we have to balance all this on spinning plates being careful not to let any plates fall. You have to constantly keep touching the plates to keep them all spinning. So with so much in motion and the unknown of what problems will there be in trying to get this into the app it is hard to give a definite time. There are many things in motion all at the same time. We will provide a method to quickly/easily and intuitively view the description/information of these items on poster grids and the homescreen and other screens. This is entirely possible and something we want to do. It is just with so much to do and needing to involve more users we need to start moving into supporting your native language. So you will be happier soon. What is your native language? We likely will support it with a future version of the app very soon. More than likely. Even if Roku doesn't officially support your language we have ways to make them work.
