TV Shows not grouping by series

I moved from putting everything under network folders to all episodes under the TV Shows folder which did not work properly with Emby.  But does work with Plex.  But decided that was too much detail file view so decided to put all episodes for a show (not by season) under the show folder.

Example:

TV Shows

.....Arrow

.............Arrow.S06E01.720p.HDTV   <====  this is a FOLDER with same file name under it

............. same for every episode in S06 and S07

This shows as individual episodes instead of under 1 icon as Arrow with multiple seasons underneath.

However, other shows work find.  Organized the same way.

My library definition only has ......../TV Shows ......  I do not have the individual shows in the list of folders in the library definition.

Again, Plex works find with this organization.

EDIT....  I if move at least 1 episode out of the episode folder then the entire Show folder starts working.  Does that make sense????

What is normal is this:

1 icon per Show.  Like 1 for Arrow and 1 for Blacklist etc.  Then you click on the Show icon and you see the seasons.  You then click on a season and you see the episodes.

The problem is this:

Each episode has an own icon at the top level where you should see the show icons.  So, if I have 4 shows with say 30 episodes between them.  It should show 4 icons with all of the episodes "grouped" under each icon.  The issue is I see 30 icons listed with no grouping under the TV Show.

As I said in my first post, I found a workaround.  Instead of each episode in a separate folder (with other files) I move just 1 episode into the root folder of say Arrow and then all is good with Arrow.  I.E. 1 ICON for Arrow and the multiple seasons are in separate ICONs within Arrow.  IE. Perfect.  It is like it can not navigate more than 1 folder level in search of the first actual video file file.  But once it finds 1 file file in the root of the Show folder it will then search all of the episode folders within that folder.

Here is an example of a episode folder:

In Emby I have "TV Shows" as the folder for TV Shows.  I do not have any folders under it listed.

In the TV Shows folder I have 1 folder per TV Show.  Arrow is an example.

In the Arrow folder I have 1 folder per episode.

In the episode folder I have multiple files.

1.  arrow.S06E02.720p.some other information.mkv       <==== example

2.  oter information files of no importance.

Again, if I just move 1 episode like the example above out of the episode folder and into the Arrow Folder then all is good for Arrow for all episodes.  I did this for all of the shows to get it to work correctly.  This should be easy to duplicate.

I am on the latest server software and no matter which client I use it is the same.

Surely it makes more sense to have your folder system like this:

/TV Shows

//Arrow

///Season1

///Season2

///ect.....

and just have each file in the folder relating to the season?  Reorganising should be easy if you have Auto Organise plugin.

Just out of interest, how come you want folders for each file?

Why?  Seems to me that Emby is lacking is some pretty basic folder scanning that it can not scan past 1 folder level to find movies.  Plex makes this kind of thing so easy without the need to add plugins to constantly reorganize my folders as new content arrives.  Seems like my efforts to move from Plex to Emby is full of pitfalls.  And now that Plex has moved their UI (uno) to be more like Emby that big advangtage of Emby has been reduced.  I have already paid for Emby so I will continue to use it and hope they fix some of the shortcomings and maybe add more reasons to use them over Plex.

What I mean is, surely it's easier and more convenient to have all of a season files on one folder and not have sub folders for each episode. I do agree that it should scan and recognise each episode folder under the season folder, it seems rather basic, but I do fail to see why a sub folder is needed for each episode.

I agree with you.  If I was doing it myself like from a DVD or something like that.  But they are already organized where each episode is in it's own folder with other related files.  As I get a new episode I would have to cut/paste the episode from the folder and put it under the show folder.  Frankly easier to just have all episodes in one folder as they come in so I would not need to use Show folders at all until I have time to organize them under a Show Folder.  Anyway, I was doing it this way with Plex and now with moving from Plex I have to change how they are stored because Emby needs them organized a particular way.

If you use Auto Organise it will move them all for you.

Auto Organise monitors a folder (you can change it) where new files get put, it will recognise the file and move it to the desired TV Show/Film directory.

Example;

Here's a couple of images how it works;

In the above image it monitors the Torrents folder, when it recognises a file it moves it too TV Folder > Show Name > Season

You could get it to monitor your Arrow folder and set it to move all files (including files in sub folders) to TV Folder > Arrow > Season

This would move them all for you, or you could get it to monitor your TV Show folder and then re-arrange them, I assume it would work that way, I'm not sure how many folders deep Auto Organise goes too.

There will be fixes for episodes in subfolders in emby server 4.2. thanks.

Perfect.  Thanks.  I will use my workaround until then.
