First great work on the app huge improvement over previous version

Some issues unfortunately I am not able to watch anything that is hd the video gets broken up in these thick lines on every motion I have attached a video. This issue looks like roku issue as with their own video app same issue

Like apple tv it is not putting alternative placeholder or thumb for a video like it does in theatre or other apps the attached screenshot gardening Australia has a default blue thumb but if you look at the screenshot from ios app there is a thumbnail for it. So hopefully apple tv and roku can pick those thumbs before the default one.

The pre playback media selection should be an option like in android tv it looks so much better without it.

The guide with the green colour doesn’t look pretty it is a dark theme it should look like it does in android tv with dark theme guide looks really good however it needs more rows there is too much empty space.

When you go in recordings posters are shown but it has the ugly white border than the watched mark is separated from poster it would be good to be able to select a thumbnail which is 16:9.

Keep up the great work

This is already changed in the beta version.

Your playback issue sounds like de-interlacing artifacts.  Is that what it is?

I thought you would say that but if it is a de-interlaced issue than it is one I have never seen before. It looks totally different to apple tv and theatre de-interlaced issue in theatre enabling deinterlacing fixes the issue but in roku it just looks totally different but you could say it is related. If you watch the recording it is very visible on the part "Who will break first"

How about the uncentered buttons of the bottom row. Shouldn't they be centered underneath the bar itself too? Then the row below the title (S2 E13 etc) has no uniform spacing and no visible elements used as breaks. So it looks cluttered to the eye on that part. As well as some of the other things you mention. How about better use of space through-out the app too? How about fixing some of the problems with color blindness and those horrible grey dialogs?

There are many things we are doing to correct they way we deliver this information in the Roku app to align it better with how this appears in Android TV. You will see a much closer integration between the two. The Roku will adopt the all black theme everyone seems to love and will do so effortlessly. You will like how this comes out. This will also come with the added benefit of you being able to choose your language. This will be important if you are in the UK and Australia as you get appropriate spelling for favourties and some other things. This is still very much WIP but you hung with us through the years I wanted to give you some idea of what to expect next.

Any issues you see after we get through this next phase for the app please give us your feedback. Until then stay tuned for more love for your Roku coming soon. :)

Sorry, I'm having a hard time seeing an issue in the video you posted.  Exactly where is it happening?

When items are organized in a vertically scrolling grid, they all have to be the same size and, since this is a recordings folder, the items could have either poster or thumb shaped images.  So, in order to be able to accommodate both, we have to allow for the larger one.

I will try to get a picture to realy show the issue but could this be an issue that roku is wireless only which i realised after purchasing it but it works great for iptv channels but they are probable at much lower bitrate. Discovered that roku has a setting to force transcoding it is only when it is around 720p that those horizontal lines disappear but then you get buffering every few seconds.

I will do more testing i will put my router right next to it and see is that the reason if anyone has other suggestion let me know i don't understand these devices that they dont have an ethernet port at least mi box i had an option to purchase usb to ethernet adapter.

It is not the roku app it is something to do with the tv I plugged it into another tv and no issues it is display properly hopefully I don’t experience the same issue when I get mi box.

It doesn’t make sense when it can display iptv at very high bitrate

It is best explained with this picture it is like there is an overlap of the picture and it happens only on movement with h264 channels. This happens only on roku this tv there are no display issues with wmc or emby theater. It is just a shame as a lot of work has gone into it only for the tv that is most used has this issue.

It is possible that TV is outthinking itself.  If it has any special "motion smoothing" processing modes, you might try turning them off etc.

It was the aspect ratio changed it from 16:9 to just scan and display issue disappeared. Checked is there issues with iptv and none so all good now.

What resolution was causing it? Was it just 4:3 being ruined or was it anything not true 16:9 (1.77) being ruined?

The display issue was only on tv broadcast 16:9 h264 channels all the other content displayed properly I am not sure about the iptv but it would be 16:9 HD quality. It is an lg tv and changing the aspect ratio from 16:9 to just scan fixed the issue but there is nothing different about the picture it is not bigger it is not smaller its just that the ghosting or what ever you call it disappear on the hd broadcast. I tried the roku media player and the issue is gone there as well. Now if only silicondust can work with roku to speed up the tunning it would be a great little device but without that it will serve just for iptv service and if I am lazy to change tv inputs.

With our playback of any media we always send the capabilities to the server prior to playback. Because the Roku can have audio redirected either to the headphone jack of the remote or to any device using the Roku remote control app we cannot be sure what the audio capabilities are of the device prior to playback. It might change at any moment. So part of the delay is us sending the full capabilities to the server every single time you play an item to make it aware of what we want. This has the added benefit of allowing the playback correction since we use the capabilities to control playback correction and simulate errors. This is a better way to handle it because it puts the server in control always of how to deliver the media based on how the Roku reports the capabilities to it.

The only other way to speed it up might be unacceptable to you. We could buffer video while you look at an items detail screen. The issue is LiveTV isn't an area where users spend next to any time on the detail screen. So background buffering to provide instant play once the user presses play on the detail screen play button would not help for liveTV. It would actually be worse because it may buffer and get ready to play something you are never interested in playing. This is also why it isn't done for normal media items either. We cannot be sure when you enter a detail screen that you will in fact press play every time. If we could predict when a user would press play on the detail screen versus go hmm.. not what i want and navigate back we could possibly provide this.

So things do happen for a reason in all that initial buffering/wait the user must progress through. Some of it we could be doing better but for the most part what we do on Roku is required to keep it easy for you to change playback method and qualities on-the-fly during playback. We are faster than the competition and noticeably so when launching video or liveTV on Roku. The difference is measurable and we are almost 2x faster than their launch times and this is according to users on their own forums doing comparison. So you are getting a far better experience with us than them and we will always try to get this faster. You will also notice our audio player is faster. I have a new method for changing audio playback that is also near seamless. It requires a new music player(I call it jukebox attract mode) that may possibly get included one day. It is a little advanced for what other apps can do(AppleTV certainly cannot do this) so this might need to wait until the time gets here. I have lots of ideas that are too far ahead in the future to apply now. I am a little too far ahead of the curve on some things and my ideas are too advanced. But we have those things now and when the time comes it will be easy to apply them.

Please keep us entertained about what features/issues are most important to you. Without feedback it is hard to suggest change. I need you and others to chime in about areas where you feel we could be doing better. In this way it gives me more of a voice besides my own when trying to get some of these things adopted into the app. Anything you feel missing or lacking or where it feels unpolished, messy, or just done in a way that gives the app a sour look. Anything where you think flaws exist please be very very critical. Don't be afraid to pick it apart to pieces. We want this. We want to do better but without some sort of compass to tell us where users expect change we can only change what we think is best. With better guidance from users we can better give you what you want much faster. I appreciate all feedback good/bad/ugly. To know where we stand is important. How do you feel we do on the Roku app? Be honest. Compare us to the competition. We don't mind. We want honest unadulterated feedback. We want you happy. Thanks. :)

I am still getting used to the app and it is taking a bit of time what I am still getting used to is when I fast forward instead of fast forwarding 30 seconds I end up fast forwarding through the whole show.

I would like options like Android tv app in Android TV there is an option to hide pre playback settings as I don't have a lot of content with subtitles but for international users this is welcomed addition I set these settings globaly. I haven't played any international content on roku yet so not sure about global settings.

It is putting a default icon for some recordings on home screen but if I go to the web client and android client it has a series thumbnail.

What looks really bad if I go to recordings you see a watched indicator out in space so far away from the poster.

I assume the reason why there is a white border for selection is that roku doesn't have the ability to maximise the current thumbnail.

You are doing a great work so keep it up.

As far as playback control goes, we are limited to the built in Roku player here and its behaviors.  That's good for people used to Roku, possibly not as much for people coming from other systems.

I never use fast forward or rewind it is always skip forward or skip back but with roku I have to get my mind to remember to press play again after pressing fast forward or fast back.

Hopefully you can fix the cards as you can see roku doesn’t have them but ios and other clients have images.

Can something else be done for the floating count number far away from the poster. Either have some kind of background so it looks like the item count is part of the item or have option for landscape images.

For the guide as I have mentioned in Android tv posts there is too much empty space it would be better served if one or two more channels can be squeezed in and for the record icons to be larger as it looks much better than the current small icons

Attached a photo of wmc and roku tvguide wmc has much more lines without sacrificing readability of guide data.
