ecrispy 23
I have the latest version of the Emby app and AndroidTv on Shield. I am using it via a receiver with HDMI and passthru enabled. With the same setup I also have a FireTv stick connected the same way. The big problem is that playback on Shield causes audio formats to switch each time. e.g. lets say I am playing a DD 5.1 audio source and I pause or ffwd/rewd. The receiver switches to PL II and then back to DD 5.1 when playback resumes. This causes audio glitches and loss of audio for ~2s. Since I don't see this on my FireTv, I don't believe this is an issue with using Android player for playback. Anyone else see this, and are there are fixes? ebr 14905
Hi. Many receivers will mute the audio with any interruption in the stream when bitstreaming in order to avoid nasty digital distortion. It sounds like this is what is happening.
TylerV76 84
Same thing on both of my Denons. Whats weird is Emby is the only software that the audio actually cuts out on.

Using any other player - Plex, Netflix, or even using Emby addon within Kodi, I do not have this problem. That's why I use Emby Kodi addon. I consider this a serious usability problem, I'm surprised its not been mentioned before.
mastrmind11 717
I have the same setup but with a Marantz pre-amp, as well as 2 Pioneer's, and I cannot reproduce this. Might be brand specific.

Happens on my Pioneer as well as my 2 Denons. It doesn't happen in any other software (Plex, Channels, HDHomerun) only Emby. If you have Paramount network, turn that on and wait for the main show to go to commercial. That station switches codecs constantly between commercials. MTV does it as well. MRobi 159
Try enabling "Play confort noise on HDMI" in the shield audio/advanced settings. This should keep the audio stream alive and if my theory is right, prevent the amp from muting it.

TylerV76 84
Heres a link to Paramount channel on Emby. Dropouts and it cuts off the end of the commercial while switching codecs. http://www.plasticfilmbags.com/Tyler/IMG_0191.MOV Heres a link to Paramount using Plex. TylerV76 84
The end of the commercial on the first one cuts off 2 seconds early while the codec changes. Its stops audio mid speech.

ebr 14905
So is there any solution to this? Set the downmix to stereo option would probably eliminate it. In my personal receiver, it simply cannot switch between stereo and DD any faster than that.

Sammy 735
BTW, Hadn't noticed this previously with my Prime tuner last year nor with the Quatros since. Is it a change in delivery by Spectrum possibly? Sent from my SM-G960U1 using Tapatalk
ebr 14905
Is it a change in delivery by Spectrum possibly? Possibly. The other streams may not have been switching in and out of DD. The Audio option is in the playback settings in the app.
TylerV76 84
Possibly. The other streams may not have been switching in and out of DD. The Audio option is in the playback settings in the app. I've been having this issue using Comcast since before version 4.0 of the server though. And if it was the provider, why doesn't it do it in other apps? HdHomerun, Plex, Channels Googles channels app etc?
ebr 14905
I know the Channels app doesn't support Dolby Digital so nothing is ever switching back and forth.
TylerV76 84
I know the Channels app doesn't support Dolby Digital so nothing is ever switching back and forth. Which channels app? Getchannels or Googles built in app? Regardless, why does it only happen in Emby?
