EmbyCon : Old support thread

This is a bug in Kodi. I am not really interesting an arguing that or fixing it in Kodi. There is no way that a addon should be able to crash Kodi, this is like an application Blue Screening Windows, it is always a bug in windows drivers that cause this, yes the app triggers it but the fault is with the driver.

So I have added a work around to try to stop the crash, try Beta 1.8.10

Yeah... I know nothing about it & I got an ear full from a few in the Kodi forums. I just watch a lot of videos. :-D

I installed 1.8.10... played 1 trailer... 2nd one crashed... started Kodi backup tho... played 5-6 trailers in a row! 6th crashed it. hehe

yep, 12th trailer crashed Kodi for me on further testing. On a side note I can get it to crash in a number of other situations, mainly around addon updates and installation. Its random and again I will not being following that up.

I find the Kodi team has lost their way a little bit over the last few years. Unfortunately it is what it is and mostly is solid and works so it is the devil you know being the best option for me at the moment.

I find trying to talk to any of the real devs over there on the Kodi forum to be just to hit and miss, most of the time you get no response or if you do it is from someone that has no idea what they are talking about.

I don't actually see anyone else mention EmbyCon in that thread apart from you.

I don't have any ideas on this at the moment.

To be honest I try & avoid the Kodi forums... they've been like that every since all the "Kodi Boxes" starting hitting the market. I'm sure they get bombarded with stupid questions about pirate addons & stuff. But... I think I even mentioned in my post over there that I'm sure nothing will get fixed & it didn't. *shrug* The very first response was that Embycon wasn't an approved addon & I should only install things from the Kodi repos or similar. *rolls eyes*

There was only the one person that used Embycon & he was messaging me on how I fixed it. Other than that some times I feel like I'm the one that uses your addon. I sure find a lot of bugs & stuff for ya. :-D

I did go back to the Emby addon last week for 3 whole days.... sync issues started & I came right back to EmbyCon. Wasn't worth being able to see trailers. lol

Thank you for all the work you put into this addon btw :-)

One of the crashes/lockups I have seen is if you start from a blank Kodi install as you did above.

Just install the above youtubetest addon from zip (do not install the youtube addon yet)

When you select the youtubetest addon it will prompt to install the YouTube addon, do so.

What happens for me is Kodi locks up when it install the YouTube addon.

I think that's just one of the many bug... Features! in the YouTube addon.

I get the kodi crash every 1st or 2nd time running that test plugin but if I change xbmc.executebuiltin("PlayMedia(plugin://plugin.video.youtube/play/?video_id=sFXGrTng0gQ)") to xbmc.executebuiltin("RunPlugin(plugin://plugin.video.youtube/play/?video_id=sFXGrTng0gQ)") I was able to run for about 15 times without a crash

Haha, did you mention it is in the official Kodi repo?

Yes & I think I had to point it out twice.

I kinda think most people don't really know about EmbyCon or don't understand the difference between the 2 so they just use the one they see listed the most. Used to be how I'd pick skins... what one had the most talk. If people knew how much easier it is & instead of a database it's more like web pages you can refresh... they'd be a lot more peeps into it. Specially with skins like Ebuary where it's even set up for you in the skin. Normal skins... you have to go hunting for the nodes & link the to the skin, there's no database suddenly populating. Right about there people try the other one & see it 'working".  :-/

Using 1.8.11 I played thru 50 movie trailers and they played fine. I also wanted to see if trailers for tv series be added and the option to show unaired episodes like the web client be added?

Added TV Shows Trailers to Beta 1.8.12

I could get the TV Shows to show a trailer before you fixed it.

Movies does seem to be fixed now. Finally tested it... dozed off.

Going back and looking at your log gain I have noticed something weird with your remote trailer links compared to mine:

Mine

{'url': u'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4DlMggBPvc','type': 'remote', 'name': u'Captain America: The First Avenger Trailer 2'}

Yours

{'url': u'plugin://plugin.video.hdtrailers_net/video/apple.com/http%3A%2F%2Ftrailers.apple.com%2Fmovies%2Ffocus_features%2F9%2F9-tsr_h1080p.mov', 'type': 'remote', 'name': 'Trailer 1'}

notice the url.

EDIT:

This should never happen, the remote url is checked to make sure it is a youtube one, I dont actually know how that url is getting through.

EDIT2:

I made a small change and fix for remote trailers. Only YouTube remote trailers are supported so check and limit correctly.

Try the latest Beta build 1.8.9

Well these come from Moviedb, which i assumed was always youtube.

I got added meta data from tinyMediaManager too. Not sure what info came from where since it pulls from more sources. It helps me get a ton of extra artwork I can't use with EmbyCon. lol

So what is adding this "plugin://plugin.video.hdtrailers_net" it looks like a kodi addon but it is coming from Emby like that.

So you cant view them now?

It might have been your skin, what skin were you using?

Yeah I just rescrapped a movie & tinyMediaManager was making that link in the .nfo file. Changed it's settings to prefer YouTube links now. Only issue it can't download them for offline. Not that that's an issue.

I always could see the trailers for TV Shows... Titan Mod in Netflix mode has a action to show the trailer when you hit the up arrow & quite a few found & played trailers. Of course they were scrapped with tinyMediaManager too so... don't know if that helped or not. Never tried it in other skins... just happen to hit the up arrow a few times by accident while scrolling threw TV Shows. That's how I haphazardly found out they worked.

To be more clear... TV Show trailers did & do still work.

EmbyScrapped.nfo

vs

tMMScrapped.nfo

The funny thing is I switched that from favoring things that could be downloaded (aka not youtube) so maybe I could see trailers that were stored next to the video files but... that didn't work at all either. They just never play or crash, they did nothing. Just never changed it back. Since I deleted all the .nfo files today to test if that was a problem.... rescrapping them over night now.

Using the up next addon with embycon I am geting problems where sometimes it does not work on the first episode but most time it stops after the second episode. In the up next addon when playback is started it clears the data that addons sends to it.

    def onPlayBackStarted(self):
        # Will be called when kodi starts playing a file
        self.api.reset_addon_data()

I added a log line to reset_addon_data() and sometimes it is being called after embycon sends the next episode data

I tried adding  xbmc.sleep(2000) before send_next_episode_details(result) in the embycon file play_utils.py which allows up next to work but I think that delays the seek on resume.

Hello,

First, thanks for the great work!  Discovering Emby/Kodi/Embycon/Embuary as an alternative to the plex universe.

On Emby Server latest beta I see I can sort TV shows on "last episode added" - there is no such function on embycon (or I don't see it) - will this be added in the future?  Can I solve it with "filter-string?"

Thanks

Hi All,

I've been playing around with EmbyCon in my Kodi setup, looking to possibly use it in place of the "Emby for Kodi" sync add-on.

Just *one* thing that I can't quite configure.

When I use EmbyCon as a widget to display "Next Up" TV Episode thumbnails, I can't get it to display the poster of the specific season the episode is from. Rather it displays the higher level poster of the Show itself (much like if I use the EmbyCon node of "Recently added" TV Shows).

Is there any way to change this poster?

Thank you!

I think this will depend on which skin you are using, how did you set it up? What skin are you using?

Hi @,

I use the "Titan bingie MODE for Kodi Leia" skin. Or the regular Titan skin if using a Krypton Setup.

If I use the Emby for Kodi addon, I can point a widget to "Default Widgets / Skin Helper Service Widgets / Episodes / Next episodes", then the posters it displays for these "next Up" episodes are for that season. So it adds a nice context to the widget.

So in my TV Shows menu on the home page I'd have the above widget up top with the next episode (with season relevant posters) and the widget below is "recently added shows" showing the top level poster for that show with an indicator on the poster displaying how many unwatched episodes are in it.

So yea... not sure if EmbyCon can be configured to show it the way I'd like or not, but thought I'd ask :)

Hi, I have a problem with playing .strm files.

I have tried these scenarios:

1. Playing .strm stream video through Emby web interface: Works

2. Playing local network video through Emby web interface: Works

3. Playing .strm stream video through Embycon direct http: Not working

4. Playing .strm stream video through Embycon transcode http: Works

5. Playing local network video through Embycon direct http: Works

6. Playing local network video through Embycon transcode http: Works

When i try scenario 3 the screen quickly flicker once and nothing more happens. The Emby server log says the video has been watched.

So emby knows how to play the stream but it's when it passes it to embycon without transcoding that something happens.

I see this in all kodi clients i have, both in linux and windows. It just stopped working. My guess is Embycon has autoupdated, i don't know when really because my kids mostly watch tv or local files.

Emby version: 4.0.2.0

Embycon version: 1.8.16

Kodi version: 18.1

lightsout

Thanks

Really? Been asking for this for a while. That's great!
