Version 4.0.3.0 on Synology transcoding when not needed

I'm on Emby (Premiere) Version 4.0.3.0 on Synology 1618+ (DSM 6.2.1-23824 Update 6) which hasn't been updated in two weeks or so and Emby is now transcoding every MKV bluray rip. Playback was just fine (no transcoding at all) just earlier today (and all days previous) until a few hours ago. Now Emby is reporting transcoding and stuttering my blu-ray rips (20-50 gigs each).

The movie I was halfway through is now showing glitches and pausing to buffer. The audio was always passthrough (HDMA or DTSMA) to my Nvidia Shield which wasn't updated within the last few days. Not quite sure what to do. When I turn off transcode as an option for the user it just attempts to load and goes back to the movie selection screen.

Help?

Hi there, did you check the server dashboard during playback to learn why it was transcoding?

Did it answer your questions and concerns about why it was transcoding?

Was out of town then got busy. Now at home, same issue. It was actually working just fine again for 2-3 days now it transcodes everything (regardless of codec etc). All video files tested are known to have worked perfectly with no transcoding. I've read others having the same issue with my device (Nvidia Shield).

I uninstalled the emby app on shield and that seemed to fix it temporarily. I'll try again tonight and see if that "fixes" it again.

If you re-installed and that changes the way it plays, then that likely means you enabled an option in the app that would cause transcoding.

Interesting, I made zero changes to the app previously (the video settings on the shield/android app are very limited. I haven't made any changes to the app nor the server (except adding more media and doing basic scans) since then. The problem came back.
