Folder View on Roku

I just wanted to say thanks for the update to the Roku App. I'm very pleased to see folder view and the other new options I did not have before!

Is there a way to make the folder view the landing screen? Obviously I can do that with the web client, but I'm not sure how to achieve that with the Roku app. Thank you!

At the moment there is not a way to set a view tab as your default. Presently you wind up on what will be known as the "suggested" tab when you enter into movie/TV views. Once we separate this into its own suggested view tab we can proceed into having these libraries default to their chosen view tab on entry. I did raise this as an issue last month. I can make reference to that here.

As requested to Luke for other apps, an option to disable the "FOLDERS" menu option. Seems odd as a menu option because it is a view, rather than a library or category.

My movies are in genres folders, and my meta data is correct and set for genres which means FOLDERS is useless to me as it just shows each genre named folder which is under the GENRES option (that uses meta data to group).

Also FOLDERS option makes the Emby apps feel like a file explorer rather than a polished media app. Just my view, sure I am not the only one.

Genre is also a great choice, but I don't like that it lumps TV and Movies together, for example. I agree that not every Emby user is going to want the same options, but I like that I have them (options).

Hello, not sure how you got your movies and tv libraries set up, but mine doesn't lump them together. I have seperate libraries for each. I only see GENRES for tv or movies not both mixed together.

They are most definitely separate libraries. That's how mine show up though. Folders is also useful to me for mixed media.

I have a main mixed media library for music, music videos and radio stations. Using folder view allows me to keep them under a single music umbrella.  If you have another suggestion that works for me, that is better than this and achieves the same result, I would be interested in hearing how you have yours set up. I'm sure there is plenty about Emby that I have yet to dig into. ( I have certain folders unchecked for my profile as I have no interest in music videos, for example.)

So I have Music library (your is called Albums), but I have my Christmas Songs labelled as "Christmas" for the music genre using a Tag IDv3.2 editor like Tag and Rename. For Radio, I had the plugin for TUNEIN.

I have these libraries:

Movies

Television

Music

Music Videos

Photos

Home Videos

and then:

Live TV

Recorded TV

TuneIn (labelled as Internet Radio)

My Movies and Television are separated content into different folders.

I am using meta data (in XML files) that get read into Emby that describe each movie or tv show episode/series.

OK, I have

Movies ( Sorted into Genre Folders)
Music (Albums / Live Radio / Christmas / Music Videos)
Television (Classic / Current / A Few Other Categories)
Photo Album (Mixed media, photos and videos)
Live TV

I hate TuneIn, and prefer to run strm files of specific stations. This also allows me to nest Radio Stations within the music area of my server. All music content can be found there, and that makes things much simpler for my parents - as one example.  So you see, I have my main page with the basic categories and subfolders for the differing content - Folder view allows me to display it very nicely. All are on their own separate drives.

I think the very best quality in Emby is user customization, because how one person wants to present their media is not necessarily how anyone or everyone else wants to.  I cannot nest TuneIn within any other category, am I right? Also, in doing so I would crate a mixed media folder, and that can look messy and disorganized for some users.

My metadata is likewise, and all my music is always well tagged, (I prefer MP3Tag personally).

Thanks for sharing your setup, I'm sure it looks great.  I appreciate the feedback.

Out of curiosity, I went to my boyfriend's server, and his also show the same results when I look under the GENRE tab - both film and TV. That's interesting, we are both diligent namers/taggers etc.  This is not a case of sloppy filenaming/tagging.  We are both very particular about that. If I've missed something, do let me know, thanks.

Correction and apology. When viewing the GENRE option, once I enter that particular genre, I do not see the other libraries, that is only the thumbnails. But all my points for wanting this option still stand. The GENRE is great for seeing all the content within a library, but I do not always want to do that.  My Mainpage , vs what I want to see when I enter one of those categories ( in this example, TV Shows).

Odd we both sound like similar setups. I def only get TV in TV and movie genres in. Movies though.

I stuck to classic genres like Animation, Children's, Comedy, Drama, Crime, Documentaries etc. I don't have classic TV, mini series, American TV for example. I hope to use TV collections for those when it gets added. I use collections under Movies though for this type of movie grouping collections.
