Emby kicks me out at random

Ill be watching a file and without cause or warning the app will kick off and send me back to the Roku home screen. I've tried on both Beta and standard. When I attempt to log back in I get a 'Welcome to Emby' with a non-spinning wheel and then kicked back to Roku. I had to uninstall all Emby channels, power cycle the Roku and reinstall. Worked for an hour and did it again. Just started having issues tonight.

I don't have access to the server logs, I am not the server admin. The issue is on Emby on Roku.

I open the app, it goes to the Emby screen, then to a non spinning wheel, then after a moment, back to the Roku screen.

Hi @@Hasefamily2003

this is the solution I use

1. select your roku app and press on the star on your remote and then remove channel
2. restart your roku by doing : System --> System Restart --> Restart
3. Streaming Channel --> search --> type "emby" --> install it
4. open your Emby --> Skip
5. enter host: <host addresss or IP>
6. Change port for : <port number>
7. Connect
8. Select or enter your username
9. type your password
10. you should be in
11. press Home
12. Select your username again then type your password
13. now you should be good

I have forced restarted and reinstalled Emby multiple times, it kicks me out at random and I'm forced to do it all again...I guess I'll use plex for awhile if an actual solution doesn't exist. I'm not even getting far enough to

4. Open emby --> Skip

I open emby, it 'freezes' and kicks me back to the Roku home screen...I can't do anything on Emby but watch a non spinning wheel.

Are you using Emby connect or manually entering an IP(or hostname)/port?

I have two friends with rokus that have reported the same problem, except they had no trouble getting back in. Apparently it just kicks them out to the home screen while watching. One said it was happening every 5 minutes but I think he was exaggerating. Unfortunately I don't have a roku to test with. Both of them are connecting manually (no pins on my server, just long complicated passwords).

Let me see if I can be clearer here.

I'm not the system admin, just a shared user

The system admin and I have discussed the issue and determined it's not an issue with the network, as no one else on the network has similar issues.

The app never fully loads, it goes to a non-spinning wheel and no activity on the remote is allowed. It returns to the Roku homepage before I am able to do anything. This is happening on both the Emby app and Emby Beta.

I am using a Roku express+ on a Vizio Tv

I normally use Emby connect but in this instance I'm not able to use 'anything' bc it does not even get to that screen, as I have explained several times

No...he isn't exaggerating. The frequency varies from every few minutes to the end of every 30 min episode.

I think we've mixed two different issues in this thread.

This thread was started regarding the app crashing during playback.  Some of you are reporting a different issue of the app not allowing you to sign back in.

My friends connecting remotely with rokus have only seen the problem of crashing out randomly during playback. They can get back in fine without needing to re-enter any information.

This is the issue that is actually the other one and should be tested with the new beta (154).

Thanks.

As far as this stopping during playback issue - this is almost always with remote playback, correct...?

Assuming that is true, please try beta .156 and see if it still occurs.

Thanks.

How new is this "new" beta? He just downloaded it last night, so unless you've updated something in the last 24 hours, this is still an issue.

For reference in case anyone is getting confused here:

I am the server admin, Hasefamily2003 is one of my remote users.

He can connect using plex and play anything just fine, for reference, so this is not a connection speed issue or a network issue. The server itself hasn't updated to anything new recently either, so it isn't due to any changes in the emby server as far as I can tell.

I can post logs tonight when I get home, but i dont know as they will be of any use since he can't even get past the welcome screen.

When i look at the activity log when he tried to boot emby, all i see from him is "Hasefamily2003 has disconnected from Roku Express +" and then the timestamp and ip address.

Only remote and only roku.

Unfortunately these particular users would likely have trouble trying to install a beta.

I was able to uninstall and reinstall beta with no issues. I'm currently logged in and streaming. I'll see how long this lasts

Update on Hasefamily2003 after the new beta:

1. He was able to log in last night and this morning without issues

2. Last night, he tried to watch an episode of a show.  First, he tried to watch it by clicking on it in "next up" then hitting play next episode.  The wheel spun for 3-4 minutes, then popped up with an red message in the corner with a message to the effect of "can not find file to play".  He tried this twice with the same results.  So he backed completely out, then went into TV Shows, went to the show, went to the season he was watching, and clicked to open it.  There were no episodes listed.  So he back out 1 screen, then went back into season, and there were finally episodes listed.  He went to the episode he wanted, clicked on it to go into the episode summary screen, then clicked "play episode", then got the spinning wheel again for 4-5 minutes, then finally kicked him back to the tv show screen without playing the episode.  After that, he completely backed out of Emby, then reopened the app.  At that point, when he navigated the show, he was able to finally get the episode to play, but it would only play 1 episode.  When it tried to auto advance to the next episode after the first one had ended, he got the "can not find file to play" message again.

3. He's having the same issues with movies as well: when he clicks play, it will spin for 4 minutes or so then tell him "can not find file to play"

4. I also run plex on my machine, so he tested the same files with plex.  There were no screen lag issues or missing episodes when navigating, and all files started playing within a couple seconds of clicking play.  This tells me it isn't a network issue on either his or my end, but it isolated to the Emby itself, either in the server programming or the Roku app programming.  Since the server version hasn't changed recently, I have to assume it is something to do with the Roku app changes.

I will PM @@ebr my server logs, as they contain IP addresses I don't feel need to be exposed publically. For reference, the last file played ended at 3/30/2019, 3:37:21 am.

I'll look at the server log but that all sounds to me like network communication issues...
