Media Browser Theater Spotlight Box

yea the only problem with that as a screen saver is that the active content (vvideo), will prevent the system from being able to idle and sleep.

i do like teh idea of being able to play that kind of content sequentially though. like for example, if you're in the room but not sitting down watching, you might want to have something that you can listen to but don't need to follow intently.

I was thinking about the Theaters Spotlight Box. Is it possible to have that box play video?

I thought I would be cool to see Trailers for the movies among the rotating backdrops. Something that Media Center was never able to pull off.

I was also thinking about Trailers for upcoming movies.

I was thinking about how we could use the API User information to narrow down his/hers favorite type of movie.

Maybe choose a top three Genres.

Then when ever new trailers are added through either the trailer plug-in, or through Metabrowsers' trailer Download, we could search the genres for those trailers and if they meet a certain criteria then put them into the mix in the spotlight box.

What do you think?

I have a couple functions I could share, that narrows down the users top three favorite Genres of movies to watch.

Then we just check the movie.Xml file of the new trailers to check against the out come of my function.

This is all based on the fact that it is indeed possible to play video in the spotlight box, I really hope that it is, or will be.

the spotlight is random right now. there's too many other things to do so i can't really go crazy with it right now

I think a trailers screen saver would be cool (this doesn't exist right?). Play trailers for unwatched content in the current user collection. It could support Movies, TV or a mix of both.

Of coarse, you are a busy man Luke. I thought I would record my idea for future reference. I have a feeling that it is something you guys probably have up your selves already though. Sinjin I like you addition. Perhaps I can perfect my function to do that, and have it ready for Luke if he wants it later.

Another way I was for-seeing this type of thing, was no audio in the spot light, just the video playback, I also thought it would be cool to see it play a trailer after cycling through backdrops.

Does that "slide show" of images run on a timer?

If so what about calculating the cycles the timer has run with a Loop count (i = 0 to 5 , i+=1<-- whatever), then if the count is five (images) play a trailer.  This also allows the computer to sleep. just have to wait for the last trailer to stop.

Oh man, it might be the beer here..., but you could through a couple of MB3 "commercials" in the spotlight box to promote new products and plug-ins.

So much potential it's unbelievable!

Ya I see it much like what your describing. Good ideas.

Would be a but like the dashboard of xbox 360 in a way.

I like this idea.  Sometimes it takes us forever to pick a movie to watch, especially when friends are over.  I think something you could turn on and off (so it wasn't annoying if you didn't want it), but show trailers while you're browsing for movies would be kinda cool.  The on demand thing on my cable does that now and I find myself stopping to watch while i'm browsing and seeing movies I hadn't thought about seeing.  Maybe possible for a setting to show only trailers for movies you have, or could you set to also pull trailers for the genre randomly from the net so your exposed to new movies?  As I was thinking about this I came across www.trailersfornetflix.com so I don't know how they do it.  Which also makes me wonder, does Netflix have any developer stuff that would allow you to embed Netflix in Media Browser Theater?
