Server

I have just tried playing Windows media center with the server on another PC which is my server. The problem is when I try and fast forward or rewind it is sluggish and then does not work.

It is running over ethernet so I would expect it to be fine.

Is there something that I need to do in the settings to make this work smoothly?

Can you attach the emby server log? What kind of video are you playing?

Luke, the file is MKV.

Server log attached. Also attached ffmpeg transcode file.

I am playing with an external player. MPC-HC x64

I have just switched the server from the PC running Emby for WMC to another PC on a CAT6 network.

Transcoding should basically never happen with EMC.  More than likely, the new machine cannot properly access the media locations.

If EMC is on a different machine then obviously it won't be able to access your D: drive:

D:\\Film & TV\\Series\\Strike back\\Season 6\\Strike.Back.S06E01.1080p.BluRay.x264-SHORTBREHD.mkv

Did you fill out the optional network path when setting up your library folders?

Gents, it is only the server on another PC. Emby for Windows media center is on the PC that I am watching from.

I did not fill out the optional network path.

Sounds like a windows share issue to me.

On both the PCs go into the "Network and sharing center" and then "Change Advance Sharing settings" make sure that -

Turn on network discovery

Turn on file and printer sharing

Turn off Password protected sharing  (this one is almost always the culprit as it's sometimes reset after certain windows updates)

**Be sure to check the settings in all 3 profiles, work, public etc...

If the server is on a different PC from the client, there is no way for the client to access "D:" on the server machine.  It must be setup as a network share and you must use the Optional Network Path field to provide that info.

When I start Emby for Windows media center I logon to my username which is the server. It picks it up because I have given folder sharing permissions on the server PC.

So I am accessing the server and it plays the files but it does not fast forward or rewind correctly.

If you don't inlcude network paths you will have issues.  I do this even when emby server isn't accessing files over the network, and I rarely have issues.

Gents,

I have setup up the folders as the wiki suggests. See attached screenshot and I still can't fast forward or rewind. It is doing the same thing as previously. Just struggles.

When I pres play for an episode for example, the player drops behind Emby for WMC.

I am playing with external player and the settings are correct because if I use a local server, the player will stay at the front.

We will need to see a new EMC log to get more information but why are you using an external player?  That means there are parts of this process that will be totally out of our control.

Okay I will sort that out.

I prefer MPC-HC to be honest ebr.

For what reason?   What can't the built-in WMC player do?

How did you enable mkv playback in wmc? How do you have your codecs setup? You aren't always going to get FF and RW to work out of the box even with codec packs. I had really tweak my codecs to get FF and RW working g BUT skip ahead and instant reply are much easier. I have seen Incorrect codec configurations act like network issues.

I have switched to the internal player for ease of use to see what is going on. Actually noticed that the picture is better than MPC-HC. I will keep this option.

I have attached 3 logs from the Server log folder.

Hope this helps and let me know if you want me to try anything.

I was using MPC-HC previously which has LAV Codecs.

I also have LAV Codecs installed for when I use the internal player.

If there is particular settings that I need to take into account then please advise.

Thanks.

Hi.  I need the log from Emby for Media Center, not the server.  However, the fact that there is a transcode log on the server tells me that the issue is still the fact that your EMC machine cannot access the file location as you defined it.

I don't understand your response because it is accessing the other PC and server because it is playing the file.

It is able to do that by going through the Emby Server.  You need the machine to be able to directly access the file locations instead.  This is what is not setup properly.

From the EMC machine you need to be able to type the path to the media into an Explorer window and be able to get there that way.  This requires both proper network sharing setup and proper setup of the Optional Network Path in the library setup in Emby.

How do I do this from the EMC PC? I have the folders shared within Windows. Is there a Wiki for this please?

That file that I played which you can see in the logs which sits in my Series folder is setup in Optional Network Path as per the Wiki page.

\\Server\Series

Is this incorrect?if so, how should it be please?
