IOS app over VPN stopped working last year

Hello

I got emby premier and current on all its software

The emby app in my iphone was running fine getting into the server via vpn until an upgrade sometime last year leaving me with a vague "unable to connect" message

The phone's web browser still works getting into the emby server via vpn using its local ip over http

I'm guessing it's a timeout value somewhere,  but don't see any settings to find or change them, so gave up, until someone from emby answered my apple store feedback, suggesting I post here.

How are you trying to connect with the app?

Its a no brainer.

 

Login/password are stored in the app by choice

 

I tap the emby icon on my iphone. The home page pages pops up

 

Using the vpn, tap the same emby icon, the sever name pops up, I tap it, then connect, then get a message yjay says "cant connect" with a suggestion to check if the server is running

How do I connect to the vpn?

 

Using the built in iphone vpn client.

 

FYI - Android tablets use its built in IPSEC client (that works fine with the emby android app), iphone can use either L2TP  or IPSEC. I got configs for both.  Both same error with emby app.

Is the vpn client intended to intercept localhost by any chance?

If you mean the "send all traffic" setting, emby app doesnt work whether its on of off

 

If you mean something else, I dont know how to test it

No,

 

I don't know how to get it working other than press the connect button.

 

Either it works, or it doesn't.

 

As of the latest iphone and emby updates - it doesn't.

 

For an alternative I use npvr app for tv, and file sharing apps for stored video.

 

I'll post back if something changes.

Is there somewhere else I should be contacting for technical support?

 

This app still doesn't work through vpn.

The server logs don't see me coming in.

I don't know of anyway to test the iphone app other than press the connect button in the emby app itself.

If the feature was disabled on purpose - just say so and I'll go away.

 

Alternative apps - npvr for tv, and nplayer for video files , as well as safari - work fine over vpn.

But the emby app is preferred.
