No compatible streams are currently available when playing back music videos

OS: Linux Mint 19

Emby: 4.0.2.0

A few hours ago, I added my Music Videos library, did a scan (which completed) then did some other things around the house. Sat down to watch some of my newly added music videos and noticed that some files playback fine and others fail.

When playing back from my iPad, Apple TV or locally via the web interface, some videos (very few) play back perfectly fine while others fail. I get this error on the iPad and locally from the web interface, "No Compatible Streams are currently available". On the Apple TV, just the spinning wheel of death. No problems playing any other media on my server. I'd say that the majority of my music files straight up fail while a few of them work fine. Seen it with MP4s, MKVs....no rhyme or reason.

No transcoder log since they don't even start. Attaching server log. All these files are in the same library so I don't think it's a permission issue.

Curious, if you use the metadata editor on one of these, does it show a path for the item?

Weird, it does not. Here's one that does not work:

and here's one that DOES work:

What in the world would cause that? But that explains why they aren't playing.... Emby doesn't know where they are. All the files were in that folder when I added the library.

I fixed it, kind of. I deleted the library and added it back as "Mixed Content" and everything plays perfectly. Maybe there's a bug in the "Music Videos" library type?

Did you have this library prior to the 3.5 upgrade? I think the issue might be associated with the upgrade from 3.5.

I did not. I only just recently added it. I checked some old server log files I uploaded in the 'testing area' forum when I had a problem or three when I was using the beta versions of Emby 4 and didn't see that directory in those log files.

Hello,

I have exactly the same problem.

OS: Synology

Emby: 4.0.2.0

For somes files, the path is missing. I uninstal embyserver, deleted all the nfo files, didn't restore any backup files and made a fresh new install, i only added the media library type with music videos and the problem appears again. I tryed multiple configuration with no success.

INEE (I'm no Emby Expert :) but I'd say that the 'Music Video' code might need a look at. Wonder what is causing Emby to ignore/not pick up the path for random files when that library type is selected?!?!?

I'm still trying to chase down why this is happening for certain videos. Thanks guys.

I know you are looking into this issue, just adding, I am having the same issue with a new video music folder type  I have created.

I copied the folder that wouldn't play into a TV structured folder and the mkv played just fine.

As others have mentioned it seems to not like being a music folder type.

If it helps this is the media info on  the file

Thanks for the report. Let's see if it still happens when the upcoming 4.1 release is available.

OK stupid question here then.

With your previous comment I presume we are not on 4.1 yet?

How do I know what version I am on as when I look at Emby Server it says  I am on 4.1.26. I doubt you have released 4.1 and 26 fixes in 11 days since 11 April?

So I am obviously looking in the wrong place.

Hi,

With the new update, apparently the problem is the same. Some music video are not recognize. The path is missing (without MVDB turning on). So what is the best solution to have some music video turning right on ?

Thanks a lot.

@linuxminix can you please try removing your music video library from emby server, then run a full library scan to clear it out of the database, and then add it back. Please let me know if it happens again after that. Thanks.

Hi

I have tried what you asked above.

I removed everythingout of the Music Video folder and did a library scan.

The folder showed as being empty

Confirmed it by going into the Music Video library.

Put the file back and did a Libray Scan.

It populated the file and again came up with the same error.

I then moved the filed in a Documentaries folder and did another library scan.

It then played fine from that library.

There isn't a log file as it didn't start to play. I can attach the log file after I moved it into the Documentaries library and it started to play, but not when it was in the Music video's Library

Hi,

For me, all seems to be ok now without removing the music video folder. I've just made a complete media library scan and edit each file one by one in the nfo metadata manager. So i don't know which of these 2 actions resolve the problem, sorry...

Thanks

Initial result is no change, by just going to the music folder and trying to play it.

I will remove the files and do a scan next and put them back, do another scan and see what happens.

I removed the files, did a scan and verified the music was no longer in Emby.

I removed all .nfo files from the folders, rebooted the machine.

I then put the files back and did a re-scan.

Sadly the same result.

Now spend 5 minutes trying to find how to attach the log file. :)

I deleted all logs prior to reboot, so the log just contains the startup logs and trying to play the music video.

If there are ffmpeg logs, where would I find them? I tried searching the forums but couldn't find a post saying where they live.

(Might be a good spot to put that in the How to report a problem as I also checked there)
