PowerDVD13 as external player => how to go back into MediaBrowser after playing stop button ???

Hello guys,

I'm just moving from MediaBrowser 2 now (thanks the developpers for the forcing hand this last week, vanilla theme was stopping because licence was not more recognise!) and I encounter a little problem that I also had with MediaBrowser 2.

I use PowerDVD13 as external player in "cinema mode". That works very nice and I can change language, subtitles,... very well. My only problem is when I press the stop button I'm not going back to MediaBroser! I'm naviguate inside PowerDVD Cinema and I need to press the Media Center button to go back into MediaBroser interface, not very nice!

Is there someone knows how can I go back directly into MediaBrowser after stopping playing a movie? Arguments are setup by default in the configurator and I choose "generic". I don't know where looking.

Thank you for your help, it will be very appreciate !!! ;-)

There would need to be an option in PDVD to close the program when you hit stop.  Look for something like that in its settings.

If that isn't there, is there a remote command that will exit PDVD?

Basically, you need the PDVD program to exit for us to get control back.  Doing it the way you are now is probably actually going to cause a problem if you try to play something else.

I never see any closing option inside PowerDVD. I'm suppose I'm not the only one who use PowerDVD in the Media Browser community, no?

Nobody encouter the same problem than me? I know that Total Media Theatre had a better compatibility with MediaBrowser but in my case, some movies can't be read by TMT.

And PowerDVD read all my movies with a perfect integration inside MediaCenter interface.

So, is there some argument exist to force PowerDVD to close after playing? When you choose "generic" in the list of external player you have the possibility to give some arguments but

I never see the list of what are they!

Thanks for you help!

That is up to the individual player.  With MPC-HC the argument /close tells it to close when it is finished playing the file but I don't know if a similar option exists for PowerDVD.

I'd say most people who use an external probably use MPC second is probably TMT.

In my opinion that should be an option inside MediaBrowser! MediaBrowser can't play Blu-Ray or other special files, you give the possibility to use an external player INSIDE MediaBroser but when you are inside

the external player, MediaBrowser leave the hand to the external player. That's not logical!

I use Media Browser, for some specific file I have to use an external player and when I finished to play, guess what...I want to go back inside Media Browser! It's just so evident that I don't understand why it's not already

an available feature ? For example: You have a smart TV and you want to make some Skype viso conference. You download the (external) app, install it and making the viso conf. At the end of the visio, you just return normally

inside the smart TV interface, right ? That's just the way you are waiting! Why that's not the case with MediaBrowser ?

So for me, I'm waiting an option inside Media Browser "Go back to Media Browser when stopping external player". If I check these option, MediaBrowser close the external player (killtask?) and go back to the Media Browser interface.

Why does I have to loose so many time to search how to configure an external player with some obscurs arguments ??? Is it so difficult to implement that in your software ? I paid 100 US dollars for PowerDVD 13 Ultra and it woth it.

I don't want to change player simply because there is no simple way to close it.

I understand your frustration, but there is no way we can implement features in someone else's software :).  PDVD needs to provide you an easy way to exit after playback.

Not implement features in someone else's software, just launching a batch like that => "taskkill /f /im PowerDVDCinema13.exe" when you press stop button.

With this procedure you always stay inside the Media Browser interface.

When you press the stop button, you are in the other program, not ours.  That program determines what happens.

I use PowerDVD 13 as an external player, to return to MediaBrowser I just close the PowerDVD Window.

Now that TMT is no longer supported I was forced to switch to PowerDVD and now I am facing the same issue. Sure you can just close PowerDVD by clicking it close by picking up a mouse/keyboard, but that is not what the poster or I want. We want to use our MCE remote control to seamlessly back out of PowerDVD and be taken back to Media Browser. It seems like PowerDVD would have enough common sense to have developed this feature making it MCE friendly. It makes you wonder where there heads are when designing these software's. After all, it is not like PowerDVD just got started. They need to wake up and realize that a good share of users are MCE users. The problem has nothing to do with MediaBrowser and there is nothing MB can do to correct this problem. It has everything to do with PowerDVD having their heads where the sun doesn't shine and wake up.

I have search and search online for an answer to this problem and what I have read so far that there is no solution. Someone mentioned that you can to just press the mce green remote button which will take you back to MB screen, which it does, but when clicking to play another movie it will not start until you close PowerDVD in the background. So until someone has a solution, a hack or PowerDVD gives and makes that software mce friendly, then we are just out of luck. I am sorry to see TMT now gone, it was the most mce user friendly software available.

Unfortunately for you, PowerDVD probably has their heads in the same place that ArcSoft does and realizes that their market is basically gone.  It won't surprise me to see them go the same way.

If your remote is programmable and Pdvd has a hotkey to close it you could set up your stop button to send the close instead of stop command - but that would affect everything so maybe it could send both.

I am also going to go with PowerDVD for my 3D blu-ray playback. You can use something like eventghost (free) or Girder (paid) to setup the stop button to close the program and or execute any other macro you want.

I was thinking of upgrading to Version 14 due to the sale - support a great product etc.   Would others like to join me in asking for an additional command line argument e.g. /q to tell the app to quit once it's finished playing or stopped?

Has anyone figured this out yet?

How to make PowerDVD exit by pressing STOP &/or BACK button on remote so it closes and focus returns to Emby WMC ???

Thanks!

Eventghost. You can use eventghost to fire a macro where if power DVD is open then pressing the stop button will close the program. I wouldn't look to power DVD for a whole lot of support

Here is how I handle it in my setup without using Eventghost, Girder or some other additional program. The windows convention for closing an application is the keyboard combination of ALT+F4. I have a Logitech remote and on it I assigned one button to send the "Alt+F4" command to the HTPC. It closes PDVD 16 and returns to WMC. If you want to get fancy with Logitech you can assign a Sequence that sends several commands to the application that has the focus. So to stop PDVD and return to WMC just create the Sequence that sends first the STOP command and then the ALT+F4 command and it returns to WMC. Don't think you can do this with some setting in PDVD by itself and an additional start up parameter will also not help as the focus of the Emby team is on the Emby Theater player and not another 3rd party external player.

In case you can help, when I press the back button of my harmony control, PowerDVD stops and returns to the first PowerDVD menu where you can choose to restart or modify parameters. I pulse again back and go back to WMC.

Only I'm using PoweDVD as player for DVD and Bluray ISO's.

(for the rest (mkv, avi, ...) I use the player build in WMC)
