Emby Connect does not stay signed in

Emby Connect does not stay signed in after exiting the roku app and relaunching it.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Start Emby

2. Log into Emby Connect using pin

3. See your Emby servers, they have a cloud icon in top right, Sign out at the bottom

4. Exit Emby

5. Start Emby

6. No cloud icons, Sign in at the bottom

Since Emby doesn't remember the last logged in user (issue#261) this means every time I launch Emby I have to do the Emby Connect sign in again.

Hi.  If you sign out, then the login information is discarded.  You do not need (or want) to sign out in this case.

Sign out should probably be more properly labeled "Forget me".

I am not signing out. If you follow the steps to reproduce on step 3 you will know that you are signed in because it says "Sign out" at the bottom. You do not need to click "Sign Out". In step 4 you exit emby back to the roku home screen by pressing the home button. This is what causes you to become signed out and is a bug I assume. When you open Emby again you will no longer be signed into Emby Connect even though you never clicked Sign out.

Okay, we'll have to test this out.  The steps were a bit unclear so I thought you were saying you clicked "sign out".

Thanks.

I think this just happened to my mother. She tried to access my (remote) Emby NAS-based server early this morning and it was prompting her for log-in credentials. On my end, it just says "Failed login attempt from _______"  Unfortunately, she lives a bit of a distance from me and she's too elderly to take a picture of the screen (long story), so I can't elaborate on this. Emby *does* work on a slightly older Roku in a different room, so it's not a router/wifi issue.

The problematic Roku is the Premiere model.

If I can get more info or a screen dump, I'll expound on this later...

I can put this on our internal tracker.

Reference: Issue #288: [Emby connect] does not stay signed in

I can look into this a bit today and see where the hassle is.

My mother just told me Emby even works downstairs in the den on a *really* old Roku box. It's just the one Roku box (ironically, the newest one) that she's having a problem with. Thanks for looking into this!

I finally confirmed what both my mother and my brother are seeing. (It helps to actually get on a Roku to get in someone's shoes...)

If I start the Emby app on my Roku and click my mother's or brother's profile pic, I'm immediately told "Invalid userid or password - Please try again". I wasn't even given the chance to enter credentials or even a PIN. (Tomorrow I'm going to tell them to log in with their full credentials in the hopes that this solves the problem.)

I don't even know what caused this problem in the first place. I didn't mess with user PINs or anything.  (By the way, I'm the administrator, but even I can't change or reset a remote user's PIN or password. Huh? Am I missing something? All I can do is set or clear the checkbox that says "Allow this user to change their profile picture or password". I read somewhere that you can reset a user's PIN, but I have yet to see this.

I can click *my* profile pic and enter my PIN and get in fine.  I even disabled WiFi on my phone and got in with my external address. No problem

What's bizarre is that my mother can get in on one Roku using her credentials, but not another. (And, of course, I couldn't if I attempted to log in as her on my Roku on my own server network...)

[Edit: I forgot to mention that I had earlier set up forwarded ports (8096/8920) to enable them to get in in the first place. I confirmed that those 2 rules are still in place...]

As a test can you go to your devices tab of your server dashboard. Find the device attached to the problem Roku and delete it. Don't worry you can still log in just fine it is just the local asset will need to be reobtained from your server to auth. Something might have changed and the assets the Roku stores are different from what the server has. This will cause the issue if she mistakenly used "sign out". Tell her just press the "home" button on her Roku remote to exit the app.

Did anyone rename her Roku logging into Roku.com and changing the name? The app will make use of that name to call her device if you have done so.

see here: https://support.roku.com/article/208756178-how-do-i-set-the-name-and-location-of-my-roku-streaming-device-

Once you delete the device from your server it should then get rid of that error. You will have to login again on that Roku through connect again and enter the PIN all over again. Once done this should solve the problem. Let me know if this doesn't and we can work on another solution. There is presently an issue filed on our tracker where users have issues with connect losing their login info. This has happened to me before. Clearing my device for the Roku did solve my problem. Hopefully it does yours too. Eventually we will track down and find the cause of this issue. Apologies.

Thanks. I didn't change my mother's name or PIN or anything. So you're saying if you get the prompt "Do you wish to exit the app?" you should say "No"? Roku apps shouldn't log you out just because you exit the app!  Anyway, thanks for your help. I'll try this in a minute...

Thank you. My mother was able to manually log back in. (Whether that "sticks" remains to be seen. I told her to exit the app by hitting the Home button)

No no. I am saying she may have hit "Sign out" or "Select Server" rather than merely "Exit". There is a confirmation and choices presented to the user on a back click that may exit the app. You can also just press back to dismiss the confirmation menu and that is your do not exit. It is this "sign out" you cannot do when using Emby connect. We need to do better and have this option not destroy the credential storage for the user when they mistakenly click this. This is where I will investigate today is how we can do better. Thank you for spotting the issue and confirm that delete the device and have your mother log back in does remedy the issue. We want you (and your mother) to be happy. That makes us happy. :)

One of my mother's Roku boxes stopped connecting to Emby earlier today, and the other one stopped working about an hour ago. I know you guys are working to fix this, but this is frustrating. Do you have an update ready to go soon?

Hi.  It sounds like you are encountering a different issue from the one in this thread.  This thread is about needing to re-do the PIN process after exiting the app.

It sounds like you are encountering this issue instead, so please try the latest beta.

Thanks.

This is a few years old now, I don't suppose there was any resolution to this?  I can also say that this keeps happening with my TCL Roku TV.  Started sometime last year (never had an issue for the previous 3 years using that TV).  I sign in with my PIN and sometime later (days/weeks) my wife will go, "Hey, is the server on, Emby isn't working.".  It will be, the service up and running, I just have to sign in again.

Hi.  Is this a local connection (the server on the same network as the Roku)?
