Hey there, what's the word on this change? I didn't see anything in the release notes recently. I'm not seeing chapter thumbnails created for recently added movies.

The scheduled task is gone, appears replaced with "Thumbnail image extraction" described as "Creates thumbnails for videos." but when I run it nothing happens.

thanks

edit: before anyone asks, yes "Enable chapter image extraction" is checked in the library settings, it has been forever

When did the name of the "Chapter image extraction" task change to be the "Thumbnail image extraction" task?

I have reverted to beta 4.1.0.11 so that I can get chapter images created.

@ebr / @Luke - please confirm that you're aware of this issue and actively seeking a solution.

same here with 4.1.0.12 - Thumbnail image extraction - task executed in 0min & 0 sec.

With 4.0.2.0 the task chapter image extraction is running now without any issues.

The Log does not show anything strange...

Another one. First I thought it could be due to an error with HW acceleration, so I deactivated it, but this also did not work.

This will still be an issue in 4.1.0.13 as there is still in-progress development. Thanks guys.

So no-one will test this beta then, as we're all waiting for the Chapter Images to be fixed and so staying in beta 11.

why?
running a beta means, that you have to accept issues like this.
Doesn't prevent you from anything.

For productive environment, I am using emby 4.0.2.0
But also have the current beta - and I will also update to the next beta release :)

Yeah I didn't roll back when I noticed it. I can live with a handful of movies not having chapter images for a bit.

Exactly, and we are grateful Luke gave us the heads up that there is no fix in this update.

Well bully for you.

The Chapter Images were taken aware in beta 12 and it hasn't returned in beta 13.

No-one asked for any changes and there has been no announcement as to why it was removed.

Some of us use beta as our Production Environment, as we always have done to aid testing.

No point having a test environment that you never use for your daily use, otherwise you'll never find bugs.

Well i'm with @CBers - pointless testing stuff if its not there and was taken away before its replacement was ready - happens all the time

emby relies on user testers as the devs dont do enough and things get missed as there is nothing structured about any testing thats done - they just hope we find the major bugs and hope the edge cases dont get missed.

Oh and when you do report a problem - in a lot of cases it gets fobbed off/ ignored / and in relatively rare cases actively engaged with.

And the update was in response to a user rather than being proactive.

hm... I agree, that there could be a more specific way for reporting bugs.
But since I am working also in the Software branche, and sw-testing is one of my tasks in this job, I do not agree on the other points.

using a software, which is marked as Beta in a productive environment is... sorry for the words: at your own risk.
Do accept, that a beta software will have bugs - and relasing a new beta version while the work on some parts is still ongoing is just a common use case in SW-development.

To be honest:
I haven't even noticed the difference, since Creating chapter images was disabled in my setup while using 4.1.0.11 and the other verisions.
4.1.0.12 was, as far as I know released, to fix another issue...

so, from my opinion, you can't blame the dev team for having issues in a software, while runnig a beta version as your productive environment....
