I installed what I assume is the legacy Emby add-on via repository from the zip file I got here. Now it seems to be working like I recall. So what is Embycon then? Sorry for the confusing title. I love everything about Emby. For me I keep my setup simple. My Emby server runs on my Windows 10 HTPC which also is the only system that I use Kodi. Other devices I use are the Emby app on my 2 FireTV's and on my Android phone. This has always served me well to keep all my watched/resume data between all my devices. It is all I really need. I however like Kodi on my HTPC for when I want that true cinema experience with a big screen and full surround. So with that precursor said, I recently re-imaged my HTPC and have not got Kodi and Emby to play nice since. I thought it was becuase I updated from 17 to the Leia 18 build. It was always a fairly simple setup. I install Emby add-on, login and my home page of Kodi that I would customize with Movie's and TV Shows and Music only (all added in on my Emby server) would all eventually have all my media. Now I feel the only way to access my media is to go into the Embycon add-on and browse that way. This is not how it used to be. Am I missing something? Angelblue05 4130 Posted March 1, 2019 Share Posted March 1, 2019 (edited) Emby for Kodi started as an idea and the sync aspect is it's weakest point, but I have put a lot of work into improving that process over the years, where you can finally decide which library to sync. It works best in combination with the server plugin of course. Thanks for the feedback. I do recommend using Embycon for less fuss and it performs better on low powered devices. I recommend Emby for Kodi, if you are more into tinkering which is usually a big aspect of Kodi, want compatibility with other Kodi add-ons. It also support more Kodi features, such as smart playlists, since content exists in the Kodi database. Otherwise, using a regular Emby client does the job much better than any Kodi add-ons would. Specially places other than here, like Reddit. It's always a given to use Kodi. The strange thing is Kodi has been getting buggy & buggier each year I feel. Why I downloaded it a few mins ago. Two approaches that offer different things depending on what you are looking for. I don't see why they have to compared, since they do not offer the same outcome and possibilities beyond playing Emby content. You are either after plug and play or you want more than that. Edit: But then again, you also have Emby clients as solid alternatives. The choice is there, and I'm sure if I stopped maintaining Emby for Kodi tomorrow, well who knows. It just seems with faster hardware & stuff it just makes a database seem dated to me anymore. They both have their pros & cons. I even said I didn't mean to put it down. I'm surprised Kodi haven't implemented some way to talk to servers & have an option to drop the database at this point. More a knock at Kodi than your addon. Don't know but I'm surprised it hasn't become a thing by now. Most people use a server to connect Kodi to. I don't count the Kodi "Boxes" with all the pirated servers that are everywhere now. I don't know of anyone that uses Kodi on it's own anymore tho. That seems down right stone age. :-p I only hear of Kodi as a front end to a server. To me it just seems like it's next logical step for Kodi. Wasn't it just a few years ago tho that people said there's no way to get around the Kodi database? Now we have EmbyCon without a database. Now we have EmbyCon without a database. Not at all. Plugin listing has always been a thing. We used to have xbmb3c which is an add-on like Embycon. Embycon is way more sophisticated though. Emby for Kodi was thought up, because xbmb3c was slow, needed skin modifications to do cool things. Essentially, the plugin listing approach wasn't integrated into Kodi enough to satisfy what we were trying to achieve. Emby for Kodi, as far as I know, is the first add-on to truly interact with Kodi's database as far as maintaining external content without going through Kodi to import the content first. It was just a different idea to try and have all skins work with and essentially unlock Kodi's default behavior with Emby content. Isn't your addon the foundation of the other big server's addon too? :-) I don't know how but I have high hopes someone clever will come up with a way or update Kodi to talk to servers & ditch the database that's already maintained on a server. But I'm also buying an electric car in Kansas with a range of only 58 miles & the closes service center is 70 hoping for the rest of the area to catch up so.... And yes if you are referring to PlexKodiConnect. But there's been many rewrites since. With the new beta versions that's in the work, there's really no add-ons like Emby for Kodi. I do hope the add-on inspires Kodi peeps to think up of a generic solution that would work best, whatever it may be. It shows there's a need for this kind of setup. I usually give em all a try that I see. To much free time on my hands. :-D I keep 2 things open on every computer/tv in the house, Kodi & a browser. I've scaled down Kodi to pretty much nothing but a front end to Emby. Emby server does everything I need for the most part, browser fills in the rest. A skin, YouTube just for trailers & UpNext are all I install now. The latest version of Kodi has been the most buggy yet for me so even a new front it would be good at this point. No longer a diehard Kodi fan. It's great for what it is but it's becoming more of a pain to keep it from crashing lately. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

EmbyCon has been the first one to not feel slow & it shows everything I see in the browser. Pictures, Music, Music Vids & all. The best is stopping something on a tv, walking into another room & resuming on a laptop without any fuss or wait. I'm really impressed with the Embuary skin & it's dynamic stuff. Speaking of.
