Transcoding 4k atmos/TrueHD

Hello! I've recently made the move from Plex/Xplay to Emby, and so far loving it.

I do have a few questions which i figured might be easier to add in one topic as while i found 1 similar post, it wasn't exactly the same problem

firstly, Hardware:

I have 3x LG tvs; 75' 2015, 49' 2017 and 49' 2018

Software:

Emby server running on M$svr 2016

Problems:

1) When the libraries are displayed as large images on the TV's, there is a very noticeable amount of lag and stuttering when scrolling the list. when you can it to list view, it runs really smooth (the single line view)

2) Direct play. I used the LG xplay app as it would directly play all of my 4k hdr atmos content on all 3 TVs (you can tell as my receiver would switch to Atmos and the LG HDR logo will flash on the screen... plus the plex server read direct play). the native plex app is trash and unfortunetly the xplay app as completely lost the plot with his latest major version changes. is there a way in emby to force direct play?

happy to provide logs/etc of the files being transcoded... however thought i'd make the post in case there are some quick fixes i can do.

Thanks!

Hi, can you provide the media info for a file that plays wth atmos content in xplay?  Thanks

Also you can temporarily restrict user access to all transcoding permissions on the server, then try to play again in the app

Guest asrequested

I will get the logs tonight after work.

do you have a link with instructions on how to disable transcoding for a user?

In the server under 'Users', select the user and scroll down

Disabling transcoding for my main user worked perfectly. i can now play the below example media files perfectly on all 3 LG tvs (the 2015's cpu must be pretty shit compared to the later models as the GUI is pretty hard to use)

MPEG-H Part2/HEVC (H.265)

3840x2160

BT2020

DTS 7.1 (3F2M2R/LFE)

MPEG-H Part2/HEVC (H.265)

3840x1600

BT2020

TrueHD 7.1 (3F2M2R/LFE)

I validated the direct play by the emby server GUI. when the user had transcode enabled, i could see the server's cpu getting slammed. once i made the change i could see the GUI reporting the file as direct play and the server's cpu was pretty much idle

Let me know if you want any specific logs and to what level "debug/etc". happy to also download test files from dropbox/etc if needed

Just curious, did you get the Atmos or TrueHD indicators on your receiver? Just be aware that when direct playing, if the tv can’t process the selected audio track and another track exists it will silently skip to it and Emby will not be aware that a different track is playing. The ideal test here is a file with only a single audio track in TrueHD, unless of course you are seeing TrueHD or Atmos indicators on your receiver

I have one TV connected to a reciever that will switch to Atmos or dts-x, and when i play files with more than one audio track, it still switches. I have a file with a single audio track for truehd and it plays fine on my two TVs not connected to a receiver.

Thanks.   DTS-X I'm confident works, but TrueHD tracks have always been hard to prove.  Can you please provide the media info for the TrueHD file with a single track that works correctly?  This will be very useful.
