I am new to linux and this forum, I did my best to find my problem to no avail. This was the closest however it did not work https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/55874-linux-noob-needs-help-path-for-external-drive/ as far as the terminal scripts in there it somehow installed xubuntu, or something..on a splashscreen upon reboot.. oh well.

My immediate issue is locating my external drive with subfolders containing all of my movies.

I have used this method provided by Daniel W. for locating my drives directory https://askubuntu.com/questions/311772/how-do-i-know-the-device-path-to-an-usb-stick and tried to windoz-style navigate the folder through /media/shell(my computers name)/My passport/Comedy for my comedy movies but after clicking through to my pc's name, it exits out of the entire dialogue like I never started it.

Here is a picture of my problem https://ibb.co/82dGKLN

There is a slight chance the answers given to the guy in the linux-noob-needs-help thread applied to my issue but using the terminal is hard..maybe I misunderstood some of the followup responses.

well, if you can confirm the drive is in fact mounted, then your next task will be making sure Emby can read from it.  Jump into the console and cd to the root of your media (/media/shell(my computers name)/My passport/Comedy) folder and type

ls -l

and paste the output back here.

Unfortunately the worst has happened, an accident has potentially destroyed my passport.. I will try to save it, 2 TB of cherry picked movies rip

mastrmind11 I do appreciate your help as well as the quick response, I do have a thumb drive I will attempt to link up but this loss has burned me out as of now, I will get back with you soon and just edit this out, wanted to thank you for assistance until then
