Open Subtitles Question

Pain

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to figure out how it works. I have open subtitle linked to Emby server. How does it works, does the option open subtitles cause Emby to download the subs automatically? I noticed that when I select a subtitle while watching a movie it forces Emby to transcode and my DS218+ struggles to keep up with it as I get constant buffering. I thought for sure this DS218+ would have plenty of power to run this server thats why I bought it. Even added more ram. How can I use the subs and not transcode?

Thanks

Is my DS218+ not going to be able to transcode fast enough? I tried again last night and the Synology can not keep up with it. Meaning I can not watch a movie while transcoding?

Hi I am also using the DS218+ but haven't anything done with transcoding or subtitle downloads yet.
Can you please try to explain what you are doing? (step by step) - I will try if I can reproduce your issues...

It really depends on the input. What is the media info of the input file?

Yes, exactly.

What subtitle format? If it is a subtitle format that needs to be burned in with transcoding, this is a very expensive process even for powerful machines.

Thanks for clearing that up @@Luke

The format is a mkv. What I don't understand is there are no other files just a mkv in this one movie folder. I'm able to enable the subs but there are no extra files, and when I do enable the subs for this one movie it transcode and  unable to watch. I'm guessing sense mkv is a container that there must be subs in that container other wise it would be hard coded and unable to disable the subs right? I do see some srt subs in the director of other movies but not this one. And the srt play fine..

Also why do the subs play throughout the whole movie rather then when foreign language is detected?

Because that is the text inside that particular subtitle stream. Remember, they are your subtitles.

As far as why it is transcoding, you can attach the ffmpeg log and I'll provide more info, but ultimately this means the device you're playing with does not support that format of subtitles. If you turn off the subtitles, or if you use our subtitle download feature to acquire external srt subtitles, then the chances of transcoding will decrease. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.

Hello, pretty new to emby and wondering why starting a video takes up to 20 sekonds?

Depends this to this transcoding? Because I use since today morning the open subtitle plugin too and this behaviour is since today.

Is there any way to disable this again?

Hi there, we're happy to help. Please see how to report a media playback issue:

Thanks.
