please create a much better tool for mapping channels

It takes me forever as I have 4 different tv providers and if I map the channel incorrectly I am not always able to change it without a ton of extra work. This is a HUGE pita.

Any plans for this one? This is a necessity for the live tv. We should be able to freely edit our channel mappings right?

take a look at xteve. It’s not perfect but many orders better than emby. And it works today rather than in the possible future

Thanks but i am really hoping that I will not have to change platforms. I really like EMBY,

I am also a developer and I cannot imagine that creating a better tool for this would take that much time or effort. The original tool is an abortion that should have never happened.

its not a different platform it’s a tool to manage multiple m3us and match to epg. It then produces a custom m3u and (for me) xmltv file that match perfectly in emby with no other work required in emby. It also solves a number of other shortcomings in emby

Thanks for the info. I will look into it.

np, it’s not super intuitive so ask if you hit any walls, happy to help. Also their discord group contains useful info

This problem is a bug. This channel mapping tool is like something you might use in development just to get things going but not something that should be released to the public. the lack of the ability to remove channel mappings is a real deal breaker. If, like me, you have multiple guide providers, east coast, west coast, UK and Canada this is a real hassle as the tv provider makes changes, which is pretty regular.

This is really a problem that emby should solve. I should not have to go through the hassle of setting up something in between to make it work correctly. It just seems like a major hack. And then what am I paying emby for? It's just not the path I hope to take on this. I keep my fingers crossed that this will become a priority.

100% agree. The fact that the inability to remove channel mappings was highlighted as a serious issue well over a year ago and has not been fixed is a shocking indictment of the dev process here. People should be embarrassed

Also when you have multiple EPG the order you add them in matters quite a bit with the "auto matching" that takes place.  I get burnt by this all the time.

Will anyone from emby actually give us some kind of date this will be done? It can't be that tough and we have been waiting for a long time, over a year as one user pointed out. Come on guys tell us something please.

more than a year. Well more.

Just my opinion but based on work to date and things on the go at present I find it highly unlikely that we will see anything significant this year

They need some motivation if that's the case. If I am not mistaken people have been asking for this for a year already. And what would it take to fix? I cannot imagine it should take more than ONE DAY! to do it. Please correct me if I am wrong but I cannot imagine it would take more than 8 hours to do it.

At least let us DESELECT previously mapped channels so we can map new guide sources to them. Do something to alliterate this major PITA.

I am actively looking for another solution and will be dropping my premiere subscription.

It is becaming a joke how many basics things are not done yet and who knows when maybe when a better competitor comes along they will start taking the users seriously because they certainly are not now. You can put up with it only for so long.

We will soon be expanding our channel management features to allow you to do this. Thanks !

Hi, yes it is planned for the near future. Thanks.

Hey Luke, I just wanted to check on this feature and see if its in the testing stage or if we can expect it soon? I would like to give it a shot and test it out, if it is in the works currently. I'm just looking to see if I should put my time and effort into coming up with a different solution to this mapping guide situation, or if I should just hang tight and wait for Emby to have it sorted out?

Thanks

There are more "important" things to focus on, like moving, renaming, changing button for scanning library, and than 3 releases changing it again. I completely agree with you and don't understand priorities anymore since there are like 100 posts for live tv features concerning awful channel management and other things for live tv / m3u that are slacking for years now.

I can tell you they haven’t done a thing wrt channel mapping or channel management in any way.

What they are doing is working on allowing emby to use more tv tuner cards directly without any other software. You can see their motivation. No $ attached to making things better for existing users. Plenty of $ attached to adding new swathes of users.

Problem is that in the intervening 5 year period this feature request has been outstanding most live tv users have moved on and found other solutions. Ones that it will take several years for emby to catch up on.

Pick any live tv backend, use it to produce an m3u, then use this with xteve. Personally I’d still use SD epg data too, it seems more mature than gracenote.

Yes i agree, but lets be clear, i would not say a thing if Live TV part of emby was free, but it is not, it is premium only.

Is there any other premium feature that has been so forgotten like Live tv part, i don't think so, maybe music part is in second place. Maybe better question is is there any roadmap at all.

Have to add my frustration on the state of Live TV.

I have to use NextPVR with the plugin and SD guide data as emby does not work with my tuner cards without having to rely on the Hauppague software.

Once you do get it set up you find that emby theater locks up for 30 seconds at a time if you try and fast forward past the live TV buffer, that the overlay often goes missing, will crash when changing channel etc, no way to change channel using a remote and other basic shortcomings.

Basic stuff that good old Windows Media Center did for free nearly 10 years ago, yet we are paying for as a premium feature?
