Layer 2 networking needed for Emby?

Hi,

In FreeBSD a lot of people use the concept of jails and they are not necessarily setup to be able to use layer 2 broadcast packets or anything a like. Most jail setups only allow for layer 3 communication with LAN clients through routing of packets. I'm wondering where does Emby use layer 2 for? Device discovery? Does it use layer 2 for anything around google home integration? Anything else I might be misisng?

Thanks

It's tough to answer where that dependency is coming from. Since Emby depends on the mono runtime, it could be coming from there as mono uses low level Sockets. But Emby itself is only doing UPNP/Dlna socket operations, and then serving content via an embedded http server.

@@makarai, hmmm how do you tag people :D

Maybe he could know more as his guide for jail setup takes into account the possibility for layer 2 networking with VIMAGE jails.

Thanks for the quick answer though Luke, maybe this is just a bit more specific to FreeBSD.

Thanks.
