3D Not Working in Smart TV App?

I had a copy of Dial M for Murder which was only 2D for some reason, and Avatar in 3D. Redid Dial M and MediaInfo showed the correct number of streams so I checked it but it was still 2D. Tried Avatar as well and that also played in 2D, despite having played in 3D previously. Starts around 11:45am.

I no longer have user settings, either. Clicking on the user icon in the top right gives me the attached screen; the only options are to sign out or change server.

I've signed in and out a couple of times with Emby Connect, nothing's changed.

Extras aren't showing up for any of my movies either.

Screenplay isn't playing 3D content in 3D either; that was also working just fine the other day.

Hi, can you please give me some more details about your setup?  Server version, app version, TV model.

You said 3D has only recently stopped working, including Screenplay.  Has anything changed in your setup or TV recently?  Has a firmware update occurred on the TV?  What firmware version is it?

Installed emby on my PC only a few days ago and on my TV maybe a day later. So latest version of everything. LG OLED55C6T.

Plenty has changed in my setup, as I'm still organising things. No new firmware on the TV as far as I'm aware, it should be the latest version though.

I'm away from my gear at the moment so I can't be more specific, but hopefully that's enough for a start at least.

Emby 4.0.1.0

TV is software version 5.30.30

I don't know how to check the app version, when I click on it in the store it just opens.

I don't seem to be getting subtitles on 4K HDR content, either. Not sure if it's the resolution or the HDR that's the problem; everything works fine on my phone (Pixel) and PC (Waterfox on Windows 7 maxing out at 1080p SDR).

Well, I say 'works fine', my phone turns it green. But I'm assuming that's an HDR thing and don't really care; I've got a 1080p version as well. Only ran that as a test.

Another thing I've noticed is that for the 4K film it defaults to the 1080p SDR version despite being a 4K HDR TV. The 4K HDR version plays in 4K HDR, just without subtitles no matter what I select.

Still unable to play anything in 3D at all.

During playback, please check that the quality setting is set to auto (option at the bottom of the list)

It is, for both the 4K and 3D films.

Additional point: When I first installed the app, it looked like the attached photo. 3D worked, and I had my settings. Then the next time I started it up it looked like the normal web interface, 3D didn't work, and I had no settings option. When I went to check just now, it was like the attached photo again (and that's when I took the photo). 3D still doesn't work though, and when I click on the user icon in the top right there's still no settings option. I also still don't get subtitles on 4K HDR content, and it keeps defaulting to 1080p SDR. Even when I play it briefly in 4K, and then hit 'stop' or 'back' to go back to its details page the video selection reverts to 1080p.

Can you try uninstalling the app, power cycle the TV then reinstall from the App Store? Thanks

I have no idea how to uninstall. As I said previously when I click on it in the store it just opens the app, I don't know how to get to the app details page to see the version number, uninstall, or update it.

Please also then confirm the version that gets installed from the store.

1.0.9

It behaves exactly the same: no 3D, no subtitles in 4K HDR, defaulting to 1080p SDR playback. Even after selecting the 4K HDR version I have to select either "Resume" or "Play", if I select one of the chapter points it plays in SDR. I can skip to a chapter point by selecting it, stopping, selecting 4K HDR and then pressing "Resume", but that's a lot of steps.

Ok, I've had some time to review this all again in more detail.  I can see from the log that these appear to be playing correctly (as I would expect).

To confirm, you mentioned that you only installed Emby recently on the PC.  Have you actually played these 3D titles (in 3D) on this TV with Emby in the past or was that with Plex or was it on another TV model?

You mention that "you no longer have user settings, either. Clicking on the user icon in the top right the only options are to sign out or change server."

This is actually correct for 1.09.  Is there a reason why you are expecting them to be there?  They haven't yet been enabled for this app version yet.

This next sentence confuses me a bit.  First you say 4K movie defaults to 1080p, but then you mention that the 4K HDR version plays in 4K HDR?

Another thing I've noticed is that for the 4K film it defaults to the 1080p SDR version despite being a 4K HDR TV. The 4K HDR version plays in 4K HDR, just without subtitles no matter what I select.

Can you explain this further?  Maybe you can provide the MediaInfo for a 4K file that is only playing in 1080p.  Are you playing this with subs on or off?  Is it only going to 1080p when you enable subs?

Sorry, lots of questions.  Hopefully we can get to the bottom of the issues.  Thanks for your patience.

Avatar yes, through both the Emby app and screenplay. Dial M no, it was when first testing Dial M that I came across the issue.

They're on the other app versions, I guess. I vaguely recall setting them up but maybe I didn't. When I click on sub or audio settings during playback it tells me to use the user settings, which seems silly if those settings aren't supposed to be available.

First you say 4K movie defaults to 1080p, but then you mention that the 4K HDR version plays in 4K HDR?

I have two files in the same movie subfolder. One is 1080p SDR, one is 4K HDR. They work as different versions, so there's a dropdown menu to select which one I want to play, the same as with subtitles or audio tracks. When I go to the details page, it selects the 1080p HDR version by default. If I use the dropdown to select the 4K HDR version, and then hit 'Play' or 'Resume', it plays in 4K HDR. But I have to make this selection every time, it never remembers it nor does it set it to 4K automatically as it should when I'm using a 4K HDR TV.

However, if I use the dropdown to select the 4K HDR version, then select a chapter from the chapter selection, it plays in SDR. If I back out, select the HDR version again and press "Resume", it picks up in HDR where the SDR version left off.

No subtitles display in the HDR version at all. Changing the subs track during playback does nothing, playback continues uninterrupted.

Subtitles display correctly in the SDR version. Changing the subs track during playback causes a slight pause before playback resumes with the new subs track.

So Avatar on the Emby app on this TV, or on another TV or device?  It will make a difference as the playback will vary across devices.

What concerns me is that you mention that Avatar used to work in 3D on Screenplay but it is also no longer working.  This makes it sound like it is a server issue but if you can confirm that the file is DirectPlaying then it should really make no difference as the server passes through the file untouched.

They're on the other app versions, I guess. I vaguely recall setting them up but maybe I didn't. When I click on sub or audio settings during playback it tells me to use the user settings, which seems silly if those settings aren't supposed to be available.

Just so I can get a comparison of your experiences, which other app versions have you looked at?

I suggest you try these issues in the next version of the app as there has been some changes that may help here.

So Avatar on the Emby app on this TV, or on another TV or device?

This TV. It's my only 3D display.

Theater, the default web interface, and the Android app.

Next version of the LG TV app? Is this going to be released any time soon?

I believe there is a version waiting on release with LG but I don't know how long that can take

As a side note, I found these posts in the Screenplay thread.

It sounds like 3D MVC support may be a bit random.  As a test, can you try a 3D file from a USB device?

Yeah, that plays in 2D as well.

I don't get it; I managed to successfully play Avatar in 3D previously. So it clearly works at least some of the time. Would a Chromecast or Roku or something help? 3D discs play just fine through my player.

Contacted LG for help, bloke just took me through how to turn on the TV's automatic conversion and went "ta-da!", meanwhile Grace Kelly's dress is floating eerily in front of her torso.
