Spinning circle on Emby Theater Windows App at user login

I can recreate the problem as follows:
  1. Create a user and deselect access to all libraries (remove the corresponding check mark, however, all by default assigned libraries can remain selected).

  2. Start Emby Theater Windows App and login with the just created user. The login is successful. If now the user, while being logged-in within the Emby Theater Windows App, proceeds doing some changes on the sort order of the assigned libraries, and then tries to quit the configuration screen whereby the back arrow, the Emby Theater Windows App crashes without any GUI notification. From this moment on, the login attempts of this user via Emby Theater Windows App do hang showing a spinning circle after introducing the password and start the logon procedure.

  3. If I now do set the authorization for this user back to be able to access all libraries, the user can log in again without any trouble via Emby Theater Windows App and the formerly performed rearrangement of the libraries sort order is visible.

  4. Revoking the full library access for this user again while being logged in, the Emby Theater Windows App crashes immediately after saving the permission change on Emby server side.

The user's login via web interface or Android Emby App is not affected at any time and works fine. I suspect that the problem is related to the recently updated Emby Theater Windows App.

Server: Debian Stretch, Emby V3.5.3
Client: W10, Emby Theater-App V1.1.244

Kind regards.

So this only happens when the user does not have access to any libraries, meaning there is nothing to select on the home screen?

Hi @@Luke, I’m able to reproduce the issue deselecting the check box that assigns access to all available libraries for the corresponding user, and then assigning some of the available libraries individually or selecting all of them, it doesn’t matter.

Just now the issue occurred to my personal user account: while reviewing/comparing my home screen personal setup section with the testing user ones -as my user wasn't affected by this problem till now- and quitting the settings screen whereby the top left-side placed back arrow, the Emby Theater Windows Store App crashed without any notification. I did not change anything, only hit one of the home screen sections drop-downs to verify what entries were available.

Attached the corresponding W10 error report of the Emby Theater Windows Store App crash.

Hi @@Luke, does this mean, that you couldn’t reproduce the issue following my indications? I have the issue on 3 different W10 (Home/Pro) notebooks and 3 different real users and I’m able to recreate the issue with any test user at any time...

Concerning your question, and supposing that by “desktop app” you mean the Electron based Emby Windows app V3.0.6, no, the login issue doesn’t happen with that app. The login works also on a RasPi using the corresponding Electron app on top of Raspbian OS, same as on Debian and Ubuntu notebooks. Neither login problems on Android... We are facing this annoying problem only on our W10 notebooks using the official Emby app, currently at V1.1.244, installable from the Microsoft Windows Store.

Tx & kind regards.

Hi @@Luke, uninstalling and reinstalling the app did not help, same behavior as before.

Concerning server update, don't get me wrong, but currently I rely on a rock-solid emby media server and I’m one of those guys that do prioritize "boring" stability over exiting brand-new functionality. Nevertheless, since version 4.0.2.0 has been released, I’m facing an increasing impulse to risk the base-jump, I must admit. Should I really take the risk? Maybe this is a complete misestimation from my side, but I feel that currently there are still a respectable amount of issues reported by other community members IMHO...

Are you feeling comfortable on wiping away my doubts? Is there maybe also a new emby Linux server update release in the pipeline and planed to be released soon? In 10 days I already have a maintenance window planed for doing other stuff…

I would appreciate your advice/appraisal (I'm fully aware that there will never be a 100% certainty in such cases, and that lastly the responsibility will be mine). Regards.
