Recording Episode or Series in Specific NextPVR Folder

Would it be possible to have an option in the settings to select which NPVR folder to record a series or episode into? I have folder aliases set up for News, TVShows, Movies, etc. I rarely use the default folder I have set.

The problem is that is getting extremely next pvr specific. I think ultimately we will have these path settings for series, but it will be based on choosing an emby library to put them in.

Would it override the NPVR folders? If so, could always make a list of folders in Emby that match those in NPVR. Would be good to be able to make custom folders like news, sports, movies, tv shows, etc...

Or how about just ditching NextPVR and switch to Cast4ME then maybe Luke will give some icing on our cake LoL and the best part is you be able used Emby Guide

So far Cast4ME works really well take a bit of work to setup

If it work in NextPVR then it will in Cast4ME as it base on NextPVR as it been written by sub

Note the Cast4ME in trail mode in tell you buy it, it will give you one hour to play with it, it took some time and lot testing over 2weeks I wish had a longer run time but today purchase it for fully test it which has been running for 6 hour non stop and definitely a better way to go vs WinTV it my book.

Open notepad here sample of mine you need modified it for your setup

In Emby just add TV Sources as M3U Tuner

In File or url browse the that file

The rest easy just add your TV guide data provider

So I did look into Cast4Me and I didn't want to spend more money, so I used the back-end of NextPVR to write my own m3u file for Emby. This way I don't need the plugin, I can just use it like IPTV. Now I can leverage Emby's DVR and scheduling. Way less work for me.

I think the most likely outcome, at least what i would like to do, is transform the next pvr plugin into separate tuner and guide sources, and then the dvr will be emby-managed. this way there's less troubleshooting between the two systems, and you can use emby guide data if you prefer as well.

I had experimented with it before, but I gave it up because I was currently recording content through NextPVR proper. After the folder thing and wanting to keep things simple, I decided to resurrect the m3u option I discovered while reading through the NPVR forums. Now I am recording content through Emby only into the designated Movies and Series folders. If Luke's comment about possibly being able to change recording folder in the series recording settings comes through, then I would like to just be able to, say, record a news broadcast series, go into the recording settings and change it from the default series folder to a folder that MCE Buddy doesn't scan. Same with sports, they are content I do not wish to keep past 3 episodes. All my other recordings can go into the default series folder and get scanned, converted, and permanently stored in my library. Currently it is a laborious process to do this when everything gets dumped into a single series folder (each show gets its own MCE task filtered by recording name so news and sports don't get picked up). The process is doable now, but I thought the option would be nice...

That's why I dumped the NPVR plugin. It was becoming too much of a hassle to manage the two together. Makes it easier to troubleshoot things when you are just dealing with a channel stream. I set it up as an m3u tuner with Emby-managed DVR and Emby guide data (another hassle I don't need to deal with). I am happy with the simplified approach, and I will try putting the quality back up to auto and see if the loading issues are gone now as well.

I most have miss that one beside Cast4ME had smaller memory foot print 24mb.

I kind hope that Emby crew can turn Emby in to a much better PVR as really lacking in this department at lease it far better then Plex when come to multi user and few other thing.

The DVR is a little basic, but I'm sure improvements will be made and like you said, at least it works! Yeah, Plex was completely unusable for me. I couldn't understand why they wouldn't just pick up the channel stream instead of forcing me to buy a mainstream tuner I didn't need or want. I was OK with the NPVR channel until they decided to dump that as well. Now that I think about it, I really am pissed off at Plex! Talk about not caring AT ALL about a segment of their client-base. Enough ranting for today...

Keep in mind the one serious limitation with this approach - Emby doesn't know how many tuners NextPVR has, and doesn't know what channels can be accessed at the same time as other channels using single tuner (multi-rec), so probably wont be able to tell you about scheduling issues until the recording fails. (Also, if you're using other client types, like Kodi etc, they wont play nicely using this approach)

So the only real options are NextPVR Plugin, or Cast4me?

Cast4ME would have the same limitation. The NextPVR plugin seems the best option to me.

i do the same with a different

back end, mediaportal now dvbviewer. I acknowledge subs concerns but in my view the vast improvement of having emby do the scheduling and the much better overall experience of having one piece of software doing everything far outweighs the one concern he expresses, in that you lose multi rec. personally I just make sure that emby has enough tuners (8 currently) that this isn’t an issue.

Ok, so back full circle to the folder thing. Also means back to NextPVR for guide info as well. I just want to make sure the plugin will keep being supported. I know you are going to version 5 of NextPVR at some point and were unsure about Emby support of the plugin in the future, especially since most media server software seem to really be pushing the mainstream tuners for compatibility instead.Let me summarize and tell me if I am correct in my assumptions...

Users of unsupported tuner hardware in Emby but supported through NextPVR must:

  1. Have tuner(s) set up and working in NextPVR (You can set up individual recording folders if you like, however, will not make a difference if you record using Emby DVR).
  2. Connect to and set up EPG (Electronic Programming Guide) schedule and updates as per usual so you could record in NextPVR if you wanted to.
  3. Install the NextPVR Plugin in Emby and perform a server restart.
  4. DO NOT set up a tuner card (won't find mine anyway) or create a m3u tuner.
  5. Manually Refresh Guide Data. The channels and content should now automagically appear in LiveTV.
  6. Modify the Emby scheduled task for Refresh Guide Data updates to occur every 6 hours starting at 12:00am (Next PVR EPG is updated at 2:30am).
  7. Set up the Emby DVR folders for default recordings, movies and series (main point of this forum thread).
  8. Now you should be able to record content, go into Series Settings (and hopefully in the future be able to pick a folder to record the content into), etc.
  9. Have the same access to recordings, schedule, etc. as everyone else does with their mainstream tuner directly connected to Emby.

I currently only have 2 tuners, which could be an issue, however, I only allow access to LiveTV for my account so I just have to be cognizant of the fact. I agree with both points of view. No happy medium? I am not sure how the m3u streams work and how you can tell if there are no more available tuners in a general sense. Do you make a request for the stream and wait for a response, or do you just grab the stream and if it works it works? You probably could figure it out in Emby if only one client is used, but I can see how it would be next to impossible if you had multiple clients. Or am I wrong?

for only 2 tuners then perhaps using the npvr plugin makes more sense.

in setting up an m3u you tell emby how many tuners it can access so in your case it wouldnt request a 3rd one and interrupt anything that was already being watched or recorded but the 3rd request would fail

also emby uses the same stream for multiple clients if possible so there's no wastage there.

i'm not sure how things have changed recently because i've been very happy with my dumb tuner / m3u setup for over a year now but when i last tried the plugins were significantly slower at starting up streaming than doing it all in emby and often transcoded when they didnt need to. Probably the same issue really. And plugin just werent getting any attention from emby dev's. things appear to have improved for the better recently. Although i know by comparison with other people using the ATV app on a shield that my channel start up times are (in my eyes) significantly better than most.

Also another thing i have done here (which i think is great :)) is in building my own m3u i could combine m3u from a local source with one from my iptv provider. so i get the best of both world's, the stability of the most popular tv channels on my local dvbviewer install with all the iptv channels covering the various sporting events. recently xteve has automated this process and added several other benefits that are not and will not be available in emby in the foreseeable future.

You miss one can't not modify series timers in NextPVR nor Emby Plug-in

Yup 6 is very annoying when have no image all over the place which why it has be refresh every 6 hours with NextPVR Plug-in

As far multi-tuner this can be address by siting the maximum number of allowed simultaneous streams under M3U Tuner which the Plug-in dosen't have

By the why Sub did you get my email ?.

DVBviewer doesn't support analog and xteve is all but useless it maybe ok in your neck of the wood but in US and there are no IPTV provider in US even the folk at SiliconDust are having a hard time with with all drop channels, beside it just matter of time even where you at things will changes to.
