You cancelled the scheduled task, that's why you got an error in the log file. We can make sure the error does not get written to the log in that situation.

I thought that might be it,,, but I re ran the thumbnail creation several times and let it run for hours till it finally stops... but it never creates the .bif for those 2 episodes

when it stops i check and no thumbnail file created  no matter how many times i run the plugin.. its a 4k file so it takes a long while to make the .bif file but it wont create it for those two files

Occasionally it may fail for certain files, it is nothing to be alarmed about. We're going to be revamping this soon so that may have some impact. Thanks.

Not alarmed  just curious... i did just remove the files  scan library .. then re added the files so we shall see

Just remembered the default triggers for the scheduled task have a time limit of 4 hours due to the resource consumption this requires on your machine. So if you didn't cancel manually, that would be why.

The only trigger for  thumbnails is set to run at application startup.. so if I start the thumbnail creation  manually... i'm thinking it wont stop after 4 hours... unless i'm wrong

Correct. And the default triggers will not run that task at startup so that must have been customized.

Just a follow up... just tried this again with a 4k copy of The Girl in the Spider's Web Roku thumbnail plugin is set to create thumbnails when new content is found but that didn't work so I manually told it to create thumbnails from scheduled tasks  that also didn't create the .bif file  unsure as to why

I ran into this issue again with the latest version of Emby Version 4.0.2.0, the movie is Fantastic Beasts The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018)

I'm wondering if the thumbnail plugin doesn't have trouble with HDR content. I bet your getting tired of me reporting the same issue :)

Hmm interesting i knew the thumbnail creation that gets run automatically when new content is discovered had a time limit but after that one finished I ran it manually I did not think the manual one was subject to that rule

but then I guess you would know more then I would reading the log

I just tested this with a video file with HDR content and the new built in thumbnail creation  and it worked great. it created the .bif file in about 10 minutes much much faster then ever before so this issue is solved  dunno what you did when you incorporated the thumbnail feature into Emby but it works great

My compliments
