Go back a version

if you're planning on rolling back, I'd assume that you'd need to install the legacy version fresh anyway, since all of your db files would have been migrated.

If you have to do that anyway, I'd suggest first installing the new 4.0 update fresh (ie uninstall, then reinstall) to see if that solves your problems.

at this point I am more than willing to start fresh.  I have almost 25users and no time to troubleshoot so many bugs on this new release.

I have 4 libraries, all pointing to different folders.

Movies: P:\Movies

TV Shows :  P:\TV Shows

Anime Movies: P:\Anime\Movies

Anime Shows: P:\Anime\Shows

As i stated in my other post here, Kodi stopped seeing all shows, both anime and non anime.  That issue is apparently because i'm not using the beta version of the emby addon for kodi.  As altramarine stated, he was having the same issue, only newly added episodes were showing up.  He removed the shows library and re-added it and it worked for him, so I decided to do the same for anime shows only as a test since most of my users don't watch the anime section.  Things got worse after this.

I removed the anime shows library completely.  Then I simply re-added it.  However on the add library window after filling out all the appropriate details, clicking the OK button did nothing.  I thought maybe it was just lagging, so I clicked it again and nothing.  After clicking it several times, I just cancelled it to try again.  However it appears that each time i clicked ok, i added the library again as a duplicate so now I had like 5 libraries named Anime Shows, Anime Shows 1, Anime Shows 11, Anime Shows 111, Anime Shows 1111, and so on.  So I had to go through and delete all those now.

Finally I managed to only have one Anime Shows library.  It took forever to scan, much longer than normal.  Now however, the library isn't functioning properly at all, even using the Emby app on my phone.  Thumbnails display as banners sometimes and some show as posters like normal, like so:

Any show displaying with a poster, will play.  Any show displaying as banner, will not play.  That is of course provided the episodes even show up.  In this screen for example, none of these will play.  Avatar and Batman have posters don't show any episodes in them, and the others are mixed.  I note that these were all working just fine in the previous release, and this is a freshly created library.  Half of the shows don't even have any episodes in them for some reason.

The more I use the new server update the more problems that are happening.  Please provide me with a link to install the most recent previous version.  3.5.2 is the only other one i have.  I would rather have a working server, and just update later after these bugs have been worked out.  I have too many users to have these kinds of issues.  I'm already going to have to help them reset things from having to do a fresh install.

Technically you have the old version in your system.old folder.  But the database could be a issue do to the changes.  Either way the libraries have to be rebuilt as all the previous \library\xx\"itemid" folders were deleted in the item reindexing to the new database indexing.

@@thekingswolf it sounds like you jumped the gun and didn't head some of the advice here in the forums about waiting and letting it finish the update processes that need to run.  The system will seem "funky" until it finishes.

May I suggest trying something first before rolling back?

Shutdown Emby

Delete the Library.db file after making a copy of it.

Restart Emby

Wait until it finishes.  It will recreate the libraries without doing an update which might better for you.

PS to answer the question you just asked.  The DB STILL holds all info for the movies/shows you have regardless if you delete or recreate a library.  These DB entries still need to get updated.  So by deleting and recreating those libraries you are just adding to the workload that needs to finish.

By deleting the library.db file, you will also lose your watched status.

True but if you rename the DB file then AFTER the system is back up and running you can do an export of the watched status from the old DB and update in the new DB via scripts.  So yes this is probably beyond most people's abilities but hopefully they have saved NFO with watched status set for the admin or have setup Trakt and can get it back this way.

But yes, good point on the loss of the watched status (without further action), which I didn't mention!

let it finish the update process?  where are you getting that from?  As far as I can tell the up[date is complete, nothing appears in progress at all.  not sure where you are getting that cayars.

Experience of 25+ upgrades to Emby 4x version on different system so far plus being in the beta test program since day one of this new version and taking part in many, many threads where we've dealt with this over and over and from testing all along on 3 machines of my own.

Some larger systems take 5 to 6 hours or longer to pull down all the meta-info and rebuild things.  One of my system took a day + to finish as it has a lot of data.

Emby is going to essentially rebuild all your libraries from scratch, pull down all new meta-data, new pics, it's got to rewrite the meta-data directories from scratch (new location and format) while migrating some data over from your old tables.  This takes time.

If you check the log (if you know how to read it) you should see activity there.

The update itself is fairly quick and is done before you get full access to the UI.

Once done, and after any updated plugins have been installed and the server restarted, it's best to perform a library scan, which could take several hours depending on the size of your libraries.

To speed it up a bit, you can disable the "Extract chapter images during the library scan" option on each of your separate libraries.

Once the library scan has completed, re-enable the option. Any missing chapter images can be re-created via the "Chapter Image Extraction" scheduled task.

Hope that makes sense.
