troyhough 57
3.0.31 was pushed out today. When I shut the screen off on the phone (Pixel 2 XL), Emby stops playing. Before, audio would work fine but when I turned on the screen, the movie would have a black screen. Now everything stops when you turn the screen off. Luke 37029
When you turn off the screen the video pauses. This isn't anything new.

troyhough 57
Can you explain a little bit more? thanks. With 3.0.31, when you shut the screen off, Emby stops. No sound. No video.
Luke 37029
Right but then you go back into the app and you can unpause and resume the video, no?
troyhough 57
Right but then you go back into the app and you can unpause and resume the video, no? Yes you can resume it when you turn the screen back on. So, Emby no longer supports "Background Mode"? That was a big reason that I purchased Emby and transitioned the move from Plex. Being able to turn my screen off, put phone in the pocket and continue to watch (listen) to the News or Game, etc.
Luke 37029
Don't most video players pause when you turn the screen off? I thought that was expected behavior.
troyhough 57
Youtube and VLC both continue to work in the background (with display off). It may be an option to turn on/off. Mine are on for both and use them constantly. Edit: Forgot to mention it works with MX Player too. Edited January 17, 2019 by troyhough
Luke 37029
they do that out of the box, or did you turn on a setting?
troyhough 57
they do that out of the box, or did you turn on a setting? I don't remember to be honest. Here are the settings for Youtube and VLC. I use these 2 primarily.

troyhough 57
Thanks for the info. Yes sir. I hope this can be re-enabled in a future update. It would be nice if the video picks up too when the screen is turned back on like Youtube and VLC does. Previously when background play worked with Emby, when you turned the screen back on, the video was black but sound was fine. In order to get the video to play again, you had to stop what was playing and restart it again.
Luke 37029
I think it would probably be an option. It was never intended to be enabled in the first place. But yes it is reasonable that we could do this.

I like starting up the news or a football/basketball game and putting the phone in my pocket when I go on long walks. I can listen to it while not having to hold the phone and drain the battery with the screen on. Please? Pretty please?
