Movies Missing after Library Setup

Hi,

New Emby user here.

My Synology DS218+ directory is called Volume1
Before installing Emby onto the DS218+,
I placed several movies into the
/Volume1/video
directory.

Enable Access to all libraries is Checked.

Carefully following the instructions on
https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Library-Setup
The library creation appears to have succeeded.
My chosen display name is EmbyMovies

After doing all that, I went to the My media and found
2 directories, one is EmbyMovies and the other is "Folders."
Trying both, no movies appeared,   All blank

I couldn't find a solution at
https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/674-media-files-folders-structure/
unless it's well hidden.

I searched around Tutorials and Guides, and cannot find
anything describing Movies not showing up.  Perhaps I
made errors in setting up folder structure.

Am I supposed to create a "Collections" directory and
put the movies in it?  If so, how do I do this?

Thank you for a great website and I look forward to
any enlightenment toward (what appears to be) a
directory setup problem.
Thanks much,
Mongoose

check that your emby user has read/write permission to your media folders.

Hi, @@mastrmind11,

Thanks for your quick reply.

From within Synology DSM, File Station,

Share user folder (Video)

all users are Read & Write

Advanced Permissions,

     Advanced Share Permissions

           Permissions

 All except Guest are Read/Write

From within Emby

Access to all libraries is checked.

Missing movies (empty folders) persists.

Movies in the video folder are in M4V and MP4 formats.  Do I need to

convert them to something else?

Next, I installed Emby onto AppleTV, problem persists, no movies.

Thanks again

Did you setup the user embysvr?

https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Synology-:-Setting-Up-Your-Media-Library-Share

You might have to rescan

Hi FrostByte,

Thanks for the link.  I didn't know I was supposed to set up the user embysvr.  Movies now appear, however,

following the link above, I got lost between Step 7 and Step 8.

I cannot locate  the Path Substitution window (where it reads, Folders, Path Substitution, Advanced)

I searched and didnt find the Step 8 Window, so please tell me where it is, so I

can properly complete steps 8,9, and 10.

Above all, Thanks very much!

I think that screen may have changed a little since those procedures were written.  If you click on Library, then your movie library, and then the paths under "Folders" you added you should see a box something like this:

I am still stuck between 7 and 8.

I followed all advice, by the error: "/volume1/MyEmbyMedia/Movies" the path cannot be found.

Please help. Is it a sharing issue?

Which version of DSM?  This thread is old and the permissions have changed with DSM7.

If running on DSM 7 you need to grant read/write permissions on the share to the system internal user (drop down list box) for user emby.

I perhaps should have started a new topic, linking to this.
II am on a brand new DS220J, DSM 7. The user rights are tricky. All users and admin I created incl guest have read/write access to MyEmbyMedia folder. I made embysvr the owner of folder/sub folders.
I like to know what the DSM 7 is looking for when the path is created of a library. It doesn’t show the movies folder, I have to type it.

Thanks for the advice, I just added the read/write for the users group. Nothing improved.

No, that is all wrong, especially in DSM7 :)  The only user that needs to be in DSM is the system internal user "emby" which is automatically created by the install.   All the users you created in Emby server then use the system internal user "emby" to get access to your files.  If you created any users in DSM then you can delete those and just use the one I posted in the pic below.

However, libraries within emby server should be setup like mine below for Movies

Yay! Thanks for some clarity. I will get to work on this.

(I deleted the user emby when I got started….)

Roger.  It looks like you may have used the old DSM6 instructions from above which used embysrvr.  But ya, the only privileges in DSM7 you need to worry about is the one in my pic from today.  Just use the dropdown menu to see it.

Hmm, looks like there is a whole section on Synology that never got ported over to the new knowledge base.
Looks like none of the pages were linked to the main menu so I never ported them over.  But I see a "master" list here: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Synology-:-Help-and-Support

I'll see what I can do to port these pages over to the KB area and of course update as needed. Then replace those pages with a redirect on wiki.

That should stop any confusion caused by the wiki.

Thank you.

While I am at it, the import of metadata is running, but nothing is coming in like it did beautifully on my MacBook.

I therefore assume it’s a DSM and/or Hardware integration issue. I will get the log files.

Hi, you have something going on as you're getting lots of errors "InnerException: System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: Resource temporarily unavailable"

You're also getting a lot of errors trying to setup automatic port forwarding so just turn that off.  Disable Network->Enable automatic port mapping.

I would try restarting the NAS to see if this helps in any way.

Cool. Let me check on that.

Any info on which protocol/service Emby uses to get the metadata? It relates to which port it will use.

Thanks, updated instructions for new setups under DSM7 would be great as some things like permissions are different and the DSM6 to DSM7 migration steps don't include library setup, etc like the old instructions
