Please offer some clarification on the purpose of the Name: field on the .../dashboard/edititemmetadata.html page, and what is valid and what is not. It is editable so I assume it is OK to edit it.

Thanks

What You mean? Path without parameters is incorrect in this case. Please upload a screenshot.

Don't have a screen shot because in the cases where I changed it to display a different value it screwed up the navigation of the item all together. I simply wanted to know if the field was intended to be edited (I assumed it was, because it is editable), and if so, under what circumstances would one edit it?

Thanks

You mean this (in red ring)? If "Yes", then You can edit it, just avoid special characters in very begin.

Not sure its purpose, but I usually modify the name for some movies and put things like Director's Cut at the end of the Name field and lock the Metadata Settings so MB doesn't change it back on a refresh.  That field is what gets displayed when browsing your library

Yes. That is the field I am referring to. However, when I set it's value to "T.I.". The "Path:" changed from ",,,\T.I" to "...\T.I." which is an illegal pathname ending in period. Since, "Path:" is not editable this must have occurred programmatically.

RedStripe, You decide what it is about: the Name or Path.

1."Name:" is editable, you may enter whatever you want, just do not start with special characters.

2."Path:" is not editable, this field populated from real phisical path, any manipulation with Metadata Manager can not change it for you.

Notice, I was entered the dot at ending of the name, nothining happens with Path

Notice, we can see the dot in red circle in web client

I am using MBServer v.3.0.5211.41935 and I cannot reproduce this issue. What version are you using RedStripe?

I guess I am just old and had no idea who "T.I." was. I assumed it was a movie, and did not try editing anything to do with an artist or person. Trying just now on my test server, I can't save any edits to any of my "People" or "Artist" names.

That is my screenshot and though MB says the folder name is T.I. also when you actually check it the real folder name is T.I without the period.  I would assume MB passed the parameter T.I. but Windows would not create the folder with the period at the end.   I really don't worry about that as long as the artist shows up correct.  If you have the name and mbz id correct try hitting the Identify button, it finds the correct artist for me and I just click on the pop-up.

I think his problem is that the name field doesn't show the "." at the end and he wants to add it.  There is an issue with music artists that have characters, especially 2 of them (i.e. k.d. lang, B.B. King) will chop off the name just before the second character
