Native path cannot locate file

Recommended Posts

Hi,

i tried to install emby kodi plugin beta 1.35.A on kodi leia rc3 however the native path keeps throwing me an error at initial sync that it cannot locate the files.

My emby server and Kodi are running on the same windows 10 pc.

Originally I had in emby just my library and no folder path substitutions and that worked till kodi alpha 3.  Now it's asking me to make sure kodi can access the smb paths?

So I added the following in path substituion in emby library: \\HTPC\DVD as this is the folder that holds all my movies and is on the same pc as kodi and emby.  If I type \\htpc\dvd in explorer this works.  Also changing HTPC to IP adress of my pc does not help either.  Both settings then throws : cannot locate file smb://htpc/dvd/1 where 1 is first movie it tries to sync.  Or smb://IPADDRESS/DVD/1 in case of ip adress in path substitution.

My DVD folder is just on my N:\dvd drive but shared it in windows but still don't understand why I need to do that if both are on the same pc.

Should I use this path substitution setting in emby to use native path if both are on the same pc?

Is this a bug in the beta plugin and I just need to wait?

Thanks for shining some light here!

Kind Regards,

Thanks for your patience, Does it proceed ok until it hits that folder or does it give you the file cannot be located for all your files during the initial sync?

It gives the cannot be located for the first file, and then it askes me to continue syncing.  If I hit yes, it loads my library completely but NONE of the movies can be played.  If you then look in the kodi log, it throws the same message that it cannot locate the file.  So none of the movies can be played.  The metadata however is loaded.

This problem appeared in one of the later beta versions because around september I was using kodi alpha and then the beta version of kodi emby plugin did not have that issue but I cannot recall the version number back then.

Sorry about the delay. The add-on uses the Kodi api to confirm it can see the files you are trying to import. That means Kodi can't locate your files. Use add-on playback and playback will work out of the box regardless of your path issues.

Check your smb settings, it's likely the issue. To confirm, try to access your content via Kodi install from zip > smb. How far do you get?

Hi,

I am using native because I am using an external player and in add-on modus this does not work, mainly for HDR content I use external player.

I tried what you say and kodi can perfectly locate the movie folder and access it.  Also emby and kodi and all my movies are on the same pc, so they are all using local drives.

This worked in previous versions of kodi 18 in combination with emby but now not anymore and I don't know where the problem resides.

How come the metadata in these folders are read but the movie cannot be located (I only use local metadata).?

If it's a kodi api that is causing the issue, then the strange thing is that if I go back to Kodi Alpha (which worked) but use latest version of emby kodi add-on it also throws this error.  Is there a way to get access to previous version of emby/kodi add-on so I can test older version to see if I can make it work and by that see where the problem might reside?  In beta repository I only see latest version

If not posisble, I am using windows 10 as a platform.  Would it be possible to see if you can replicate the problem?  emby, kodi on c:\program files running on windows and a movie folder located on a local drive if you also get this cannot locate file error?  All movies play perfectly in emby directly

Above a screenshot to show that in kodi via install from zip file my DVD folder is visible.  Again I do not understand why SMB is mandatory for LOCAL DRIVES on a pc.

Inside this DVD folder are my movies.  This folder gets the cannot locate error.

It takes the path given by the server. If the path of your library is local, and there's no optional network path filled in Emby, then the add-on will use local. However it's better to have the network path filled, so that you can still direct play from other devices within your network.

Are all your movies dvd rips? Are you on server 3.5 or 3.6?

Hi,

what you describe about local path is indeed the behaviour that I had with older versions, when it worked.  I started with the optional network path because it kept throwing me the cannot locate file error and that I had to set up samba.  Therefore my questions about necessity of samba with local drives.

I am using server 3.5.3.  The dvd folder contains dvd rips, but I tried with mkv's, mpg, bd rips but all same error.  As a test I created a samba share on another pc and then the files are found.  The problem seems to be ONLY occuring when emby, kodi and movie folders are on the same pc using local drives.  For me it's not an option to move my library to another pc, therefore I have a HTPC.

Again the behaviour of the plugin with local drives only changed with the later version of emby kodi plugin.  This worked before exactly as you describe above but not anymore with kodi release candidate, emby 3.5.3 and latest beta version of emby kodi plugin, all running on windows 10. This should be very easy to replicate.

Thanks for your support on this.

Ok dvd rips are only supported with server 3.6 as this is beta, it contains support for breaking changes, which dvd was affected by.

Thanks for your reply, as described, it's not only with dvd rips but with all movies on local drives that the "cannot locate file" error appears.  Should this be fixed if I try out server 3.6?  that version is not officially released though right?

The fact that it's all your movies... Why not switch to add-on playback for now. You can still achieve direct play if you disable force http playback in the add-on settings. Then you can try to update your paths until playback works, the add-on will see your path change instantly. When you find what works, then you can resync your library using native playback mode and hopefully, this time you won't face this issue.

It's up to you, I'd wait since the server is close to a stable release with 4.0.
