Anyone else getting a lot of buffering in kodi lately

Almost every show we watch off my Synology Nas stops playing with spinning circle and clicking skip button usually gets it going again

Even tried resetting my shield and install kodi etc and still buffering

Is your Shield wired or do you use wifi? I read about wifi issues with recent app updates a few days ago.

In my case for example the wifi is completely messed up if I attached a SSD via USB adapter. Mostly caused by the ES File Explorer.

That's what it actually feels like, That's it on WiFi but shield says it's wired

Might try disabling WiFi on routerand see what happens

Do you already have the experience 7.2 update?

Also try the nightly of today or a older one just to be sure. It's not unusual that nightlies introduces a new issue.

Iam sure it's something to do with Emby

Any app that uses Emby buffers

Tried kodi, Mr MC ,Emby for android

Netflix, Prime video etc play fine with no buffering

Did you try EmbyCon? It will try to force direct stream with no transcoding as default connection method, might be interesting to see how that goes.

Same problem with embycon

Plex is buffering a bit tonight also (not as badly as kodi was)

So seems liked network problem

Was working fine till about 3 weeks ago them buffering started

Might have to check all the cables

Changed one from shield to switch the other day but that didn't help

You are direct playing over http in Kodi. Did you try setting up advancedsettings on your shield to see if it helped with Kodi playback?

You could try using something like

https://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Modify_the_video_cache

<advancedsettings>
  <cache>
    <readfactor>5</readfactor>
    <buffermode>2</buffermode>
    <memorysize>536870912</memorysize> <---- Adjust this here if needed, normally you'd want it to be 1/4 or less of your available ram
  </cache>
</advancedsettings>

Did a bit of googling and set up advancedsettings on shield and seems to be playing ok now

Might have to keep eye on it as is buffering way in front of file playing now

I don't know but it is unrelated to the add-on. Maybe there was a recent update? Glad to know that it is working correctly by adding cache settings. What did you end up using as values so it can be marked as best answer?

Actually discovered what the problem was, Moved USB hub from one USB port to the other and all buffering disappeared

Must have been interfering with Ethernet port where it was

Let me guess, the left one?

I also have ethernet issues If have attached a device to this port. Even wi-fi is unstable.
