MPC-HC vs MPC-BE with madVR

I'm currently using Emby Theater v2.9.6 with madVR enabled and it works well. The problem is that the newer versions of Emby server won't support this. When I try to play HDR content with the new server versions, it plays in MPV and I don't get HDR metadata passed through to my TV. You can see this thread for details. I'm to the point where I would like to move to an external player that uses madVR and the latest version of Emby theater. The leading candidates appear to be MPC-HC and MPC-BE. Does anyone have any opinions on which is better with madVR and Emby Theater? I'm guessing the picture quality is about the same between them, so I'm looking for whichever one is easier to use and integrate with Emby Theater. I'd also appreciate if anyone has links to any good 'how-to' articles on either configuring Emby Theater to work with one of the MPC version and/or how to setup one of the MPC versions with madVR on Windows 10 w/ nvidia GPU's and HDR pass-through. I've seen a number of threads out there, but most are out-or-date.

MPC-HC is no longer being actively developed so your best bet is MPC-BE. That being said both are pretty much identical in almost all aspects.

Are you sure? Looking at the release pages for both, it appears each pushed out a new release in October.

MPC-BE - 1.5.2 (October 29, 2018)

MPC-HC - 1.8.3 (October 5, 2018)

Sounds like MPC-BE is the way to go. Are the startup parameters and remote control mappings the same between the MPC-HC and MPC-BE?

They use the standard controls. One thing I couldn't figure out when I tried BE, was when I pressed stop, it just paused and didn't exit. So I was stuck with BE and didn't switch back to Theater. I suspect these guys have figured out how to make that work.

I setup everything within MPC itself until I have it working the way I want (start in fullscreen and exit on stop are the main ones). The only thing I use for a command argument is "{path}"

Where is the exit on stop setting in BE? I couldn't find it.

Interesting, looks like MPC-BE doesn't have that option. I've always used MPC-HC and just assumed it would be the same.

So I'm not going daft, then. lol When you press stop in BE it pauses. I tried putting exit in Theater, but it doesn't work. So that may be a problem when using BE.

The ability to exit on stop is an important bit of functionality. Looks like I'm going to start out with MPC-HC. This is very useful... thank you both!

It's in the keys settings, scroll to you see the word Exit then under app command ( you need to move scroll bar right  (its empty) click and select media stop. when you hit stop button on remote it exits mpc-be/ mpc-hc

For MPC-BE, try the context menu.
