Roku Ultra Canada

Has anyone seen any Roku Ultra boxes in stores or online?

I have always purchased mine from Best Buy Canada and have been trying to find one for a family members house, however, nobody seems to have stock. Bestbuy/Walmart/The Source/... don't even have results when you search Roku Ultra. It almost seems like they aren't carrying it the ultra anymore.

Alternatively, I can get one from the just across the border in the US, but does it work in Canada? or is it a different model altogether?

Thanks,

Erik

Roku is not region locked. You should be able to get the Roku from anywhere. You register the Roku under your account to activate the Roku store on the device. This is where you are localized.

Thanks @@speechles thats what I originally thought, but as the only place I could find one online was amazon, and it said "US Version, Not intended for use in Canada" so i thought I had better ask someone.

Thanks again.

As part of not violating rules on Amazon the seller cannot shift stock from region to region. Or at least must make a disclaimer that doing so is not intended. They will still ship to you regardless. It is just legalese required to resell devices on Amazon.

Because it isn't an Amazon device makes it hard for you to find them on Amazon. But the requirement happens because of geo-restrictions. The seller isn't educated that the Roku isn't region locked. Assumes s/he must provide the same disclaimer as s/he did selling the Sony PS4. Where game consoles are region locked to prevent importing from damaging sales through shady importers who shift inventory. Roku isn't providing optical media/printed materials that requires protecting local sellers from sellers in other regions from damaging their sales by competing release schedules. In Europe a video game may release several months before it does in the USA, or vice versa. The region locks protect the investment in inventory and real goods. All of Rokus business is done digitally. There is no need to protect inventory turns or ROI. Roku is an entirely different ballgame and the seller must not understand.

The US version will often just have different quick buttons on the remote (US services) and pre-installed apps in some cases. Other then that, they will be the same and work ether side. I have bought a few US Roku's over the years. I live in Ontario. Side note: Roku won't even sell you a separate replacement remote in Canada. You have to buy 3 party. I thought that was strange when i needed to replace an official remote. It ended up being cheaper to just buy a lower end roku to get a remote lol I just shake my head at something like that, its retarded!

Thanks for that, not that I use the shortcut buttons, but good to know, and about the remote too.

I have been looking for the last week and notice that roku isn’t even advertising any model above streaming stick+ (no premiere and no ultra) on the Canadian website.

I think that’s a bit of an odd move for roku, they must think we don’t need high end tech for our igloo houses up here in Canada....

Yeah not sure whats going on, but you can buy the Ultra on Amazon Canada $144.99 right now. I have 9 Roku boxes total i have collected over the years including the Ultra. Always easy to pick up at Best Buy or The Source or Walmart. Not sure why they are all pulled now except for the stick. Was not long ago they were all for sale in store. Maybe new models are coming soon, I have seen that before not wanting to restock when something new is just around the corner. Also, Roku is known for releasing new models frequently.

I looked around in several stores here, and was also unable to find any (Ontario). It's one of those things where you can't find one, but they are everywhere when you aren't looking!
