cant get a connection with more clients to server

hello guys,

i got trouble to get more clients connected to my emby server. my test setup:

htpc win10 x64, emby-server (newest version) running as system service. fully configured and working on kodi leia (newest nightly) which is also running on this htpc. in kodi i use the emby addon from the beta repo.

second client (or all others which i tested so far, laptop, other pc, androidbox....) cant sync the mediafiles.

currently im running the newest coreelec version on my odroid c2. i also installed the beta repo of emby and installed the emby addon. configuration is complete. but if i now want to sync i get an error which says that theres a sync problem, i need to restart kodi and try again. if the problem still exist, i should call for help in the forum or such thing. ok, i rebooted many times and i got still the same problem.

i attached now the emby-server log and the kodi log. maybe someone can help me to figure out, what i am doing wrong. :)

thanks

Try deleting the MyMusic72.db contained in your Kodi userdata > database folder.

Keep me posted if the issue persists.

wow. thats it. thank you man :) but i ran in another problem now. :( let me try to desribe the problem as good as i can.

first, on my htpc i ran kodi and emby-server. working perfect now. now i added some users on the webinterface for my other clients:

- (root - with all rights and linked with emby connect account)

- odroid c2 (coreelec, local user)

- gamingpc (win10, local user)

- laptop (win10, local user but linked with a emby connect account, but not my root emby connect account)

ok, i managed to get the sync work. but now, if i want to play a movie or something it tells me, that it cant find the file, but all the covers, movie infos and so on are here. it doesnt matter if i use my odroid which is connected via ip, port, username and password, or my laptop which is connected via ddns, open port (on fritz.box router) and emby connect account. same problems.

now im stuck again. can someone help me maybe?

i have the *.log from kodi attached. the are some errors but i dont know what i should do to fix it.

thank you :)

Yeah use default, working out of the box, addon playback which doesn't require Kodi to see your paths.

:P But in all seriousness,

Check your path in Kodi, open info on one of your title, check the path, does it look right? If so, try accessing your media folder via addons > install from zip > smb. Do you see the folders? If Kodi ask you for network user/pass to access, enter them.

Sorry I'm not at home. So I have some Screenshots from my smartphone.

I have also a Screenshot from the path, which i can see in kodi. But it's not from the library, it's from embycon addon (on laptop I use ddns to connect to my server)

Maybe those Screenshots can already help?

Change the server name in paths to using ip. Then repair your library in Kodi to force update all the paths. Hopefully that does it. Otherwise reset the database (launch the addon > reset local database) and set playback mode to addon.

is this a setting option or do you mean i need to replace it like that: \\fritz-nas\**** --> \\192.168.178.30\*** (just for example)

and this i need to do IN the emby addon? or in kodi settings itself?

(sorry for my (maybe) stupid questions, but i need to take care, cause i tried so much and im a bit confused now ^^)

ok, i started from zero now. i deleted all folders. than i copied a movie from the nas to my htpc in C:\Filme. i added this direction to emby server. \\HTPC\Filme.

than i did the same on my laptop, on my gaming pc and on my odroidc2 device...i deleted the whole database and added it again. now i can play the movie on my gaming pc and on my laptop. i tested it there in the emby addon and in the embycon addon. there its working just fine. but on my odroid i only can play it with embycon addon and not with the emby addon.

the emby addon says again it cant find the file?! i got exact the same settings on all 3 devices.

i have some pictures. mybe it helps.

and a other problem comes back. :(

i copied a movie from my nas in a testfolder on the nas. same on my fritzbox.

folders are:

\\192.168.178.1\Test\Moviename\*file* <-- fritzbox/router

\\192.168.178.56\Test\Moviename\*file* <-- nas

as you can see on the pictures, in the webinterface i can see my fritzbox and my nas. if i go in, i can see the hdds and if i go in there, its just empty. but on my computer you can see, that all hdds are there and i can get in and see the files.

Is anything discussed in this thread helpful?

https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/66143-fire-tv-sees-smb-kodi-not-so-much/

The issue is Kodi on odroid can't find your network. That's where you need to test. In Kodi addons > install from zip > smb > shows anything?

the link helped me a bit, cause i could remember something i just did ;) (i dont know what WINS is :o)

so...

sorry for my late answer, but i was working the whole day.  ;)

now it seems like that its working. i remembered that i ran in the same problem with kodi and mysql-database. it was caused by the windows 10 fall creators update where they forced disabled the smb v1 protocol. so now i got the new htpc and there the v1 protocal was still disabled by default. i activated it. than i was in kodi (resetted the skin to default, cause there i have all options for kodi) and activated on the settings/service menü smb v1 as minimal protocol and smb v3 as maximal protocol version. i restarted kodi, refreshed/repaired the library, tested it....and its playing the files.

BUT...if i go to addons/install from zip/smb .... i dont can see other maschines or something. so maybe the problem still exists?

how about changing my smb shares to nfs shares? would that be better? and how could i do this? what have i do change than? cause the whole network is based on smb at my home. laptops, pcs and so on. all is working with smb. only the "kodi" maschines such as raspberry pi, android boxes and so on are linux-based. would that be clever?

(just for info... as i used a sql database, i said i ran in the same problem, that i cant add the paths to my storage hdds where the content is on it. so i had to manually edit the paths.xml and the password.xml on the kodi clients with the right paths and than it worked fine. )

//edit: i forgot to say that i also changed (before i restarted the odroid that i changed the emby addon from native mode to addon mode)

With addon playback mode, it allows to bypass path issues. But you can also try to direct play, you'd have to check your logs to confirm if it is. The good thing is paths are detected at playback time, so you can modify your path until you achieve a working path, where Kodi can actually see your file.

You can modify in Emby > Library, the optional network path to nfs and confirm in Kodi if it works (since you are on add-on playback mode, you'll be able to tell immediately, because it picks up on the changes instantly. Make sure the add-on settings > playback > force http is disabled first.

Thanks, but I guess I'll stay with smb first. :)

Now all is working fine. I added now all content. But I guess the scrapping time is very very long. As I tried it for the first time, the scrapping took more than 4 days. Is it normal?!

In kodi with using sql database it took about only 6hrs.

And my second question.

If I take my laptop away from home and I want to watch my stuff from home, how do I need to change the connection settings in the emby app?

I got a ddns URL and a open port. E. G. With my smartphone I can get on my server.

Is this possible?

Depends on your server version (3.6x) and what device you sync to.

If you are using add-on playback, then it should just work. As long as you have force http enabled under playback, it will use your remote address to your server if that is the only address that is reachable.
