Subtitles not using the right font

I originally had 'Allow subtitle extraction on the fly' enabled; and it seems to use the correct font; but the color's off, they're choppy, and some don't show up at all. So I disabled 'Allow subtitle extraction on the fly'; and now everything seems to show right, but the font is not the correct font; and it's a very bad looking font. Is there a way I can get both the correct font and the correct look to the subtitles? It's very odd how I can only get one or the other.

I assume these are ASS/SSA subtitles? Do your videos embed the fonts themselves, or only the names of the font? That's the difficult part here, because often it is usually just the latter. That means whoever is rendering the font, be it the video player, or server transcoding, they have to do their best to find the closest substitute.

ASS, yeah. the files are MKVs, and have the font embedded into the video files. I tried extracting the font from the font from the MKVs and installing on both my server and my client; but it didn't change anything.

Keep in mind that if "Allow subtitle extraction on the fly" is checked, you're never going to get perfect fonts in the web app. Why? Because it is rendering using fonts that are available in the browser. This is a calculated trade-off, meaning that you live with less than perfect font rendering in exchange for not requiring video transcoding to burn them in.

When the server burns them in with transcoding though, then we should be able to get it much closer. Thanks.
