clarkss12 295
Bout ready to toss that crappy Nvidia Shield, can't get the settings correct. Can't get the bright colors, thumbnails only dull colors. Tried several different settings but nothing helps. Closed captions on my recordings, fall off the TV screen, and can't figure out what adjustments will get them correct. Using my Jetstream (Official Google Android TV OS box), I don't have any of those issues, it just works out of the box.......... Boxes connected to Yamaha AVR and from the AVR to my Samsung UN65KU6500 4k TV. See attached photos. << Jetstream << Shield PS. I HATE settings.... It should JUST work!! What is it set to? After looking at the Jetstream setting, very few, which for me is a blessing, it appears that I need to use the 8 bit......... Whatever that means. Here are pics. Only one pic of the Jetstream, since that is all the video settings there are.......... Shield, toooo many settings, and it should have read the **EID** from my TV and made the correct default settings. << Jetstream ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ SHEILD
Guest asrequested
So it's working ok, now? If your receiver can pass HDR then 10 bit is correct. Usually shield gets that correct.
Guest asrequested
Also, check your TV settings for zoom, scale...stuff like that.
clarkss12 295
Changed the resolution?? to 8 bit now, colors are correct, but closed captions still fall off the bottom of the screen. I am NOT going to tinker with my TV settings.. Is it possible that my TV does not support 10 bit??

For a test, try plugging the shield directly into the TV, and see what happens.

Ok, connected directly to TV, now colors are correct, but now it uses 8bit, and there is NO 10 bit selection................ Closed captions are correct also. Will attach photos of the settings with Shield connected directly to TV. Edited December 4, 2018 by clarkss12
clarkss12 295
So, what do I do now?? Goldangit!!! connected it back to my AVR and the settings were retained, but the closed captions are off the bottom of the screen......... The colors are perfect. My Jetstream goes through my AVR, the same as my Shield, and the closed captions are perfect. Edited December 4, 2018 by clarkss12
Guest asrequested
I don't remember if the app has options for subs positions. Check that.
clarkss12 295
I think you may have found the answer on the closed captions. I will do more testing tomorrow. Thank you for your help, we have the color issue resolved now.
ebr 14903
You probably need to adjust the display size as it sounds like maybe it is overscanning your screen.
clarkss12 295
You probably need to adjust the display size as it sounds like maybe it is overscanning your screen. Do you mean the display size on my TV settings??? I have 7 different devices going through my AVR to my TV, and ONLY the Shield has this issue?? Tested Mecool KM8, Jetstream and Mecool M8S Pro L. The M8S Pro L is still running version 1.6.45 so it does not support CC under live TV or TV recordings. I keep several of my different boxes with different versions so I can compare when I have issues with a particular version (or box). So, I will make the ** assumption ** that it is a setting in the Shield, and not my TV or AVR.
ebr 14903
I know the Fire TV has its own setting as does the Mi. I haven't checked the Shield as I've never had an overscan problem with it but it would be labeled something like display size or position. Problem solved, adjusted the overscan and now the CC's do NOT drop off the screen. Much thanks to you and Doofus............. Edit: Of course having to manually adjust the overscan is soooo 1980ish.......... Edited December 4, 2018 by clarkss12
