Watching a football game and without warning nor input from user, the stream stops. Back up and play it again, it stops in the same place like there's no more data to the stream. I checked the tuners and none of them application watchdog'd recently. I pulled the logs a minute or two after it happened on the Xbox One S.

How does it stop in the same place if it's a live stream?

Live stream stops. Back up once and let it play. It stops in the same place. It's like there's no more data in the stream.

Lots of problems. 128 is Emby. Not 128 is users switching to the HDHR app because of problems with Emby.

Logs are minutes after the stream ended (middle line above). It was very close to the stream running half an hour. It always occurs after the stream has been running >15 minutes. Always Live TV. Exclusively a problem on the Xbox One S, as far as I know.

I think the server is cutting off the stream for some reason. The Xbox One S can jump back from the endpoint where it gets cut off but when it plays forward, it stops in the same place. It's basically end of stream...because server stopped capturing it.

As you can see, not even 10 minutes between server dropping the stream.

If you were to play from the web app in Chrome, does the same thing happen there?

Using Microsoft Edge, 30 minutes now and no issues. I think it's exclusively the Xbox One S + Live TV. It didn't do this before that Xbox One S update that changed media support months ago.

Edit: Over an hour and no problems on Edge.

What is ordering the stream to be stopped? I assume the order is coming from the Xbox One S so there can only be two possibilities:
1) The user is ordering the stop by backing out of the Live TV because the stream seized up.
2) Emby or the Xbox One S is ordering the stream to stop because it detects the stream has ended (e.g. a minute disruption in the stream because of a gust of wind).

Come to think of it, it was incredibly windy that day...

I've also been told there's three recordings that the Xbox One S couldn't finish playing yet, the server was able to extract chapter images from the whole thing...

I'm thinking that since the Xbox One S update, there's like an "ignore errors" option that's been disabled or a "halt on errors" enabled. If it's possible, Emby needs to tell the Xbox One S to plow through the imperfections. If that's not possible, detect the issue and jump 1 second ahead past it.

Nothing is ordering it, it sounds like the video player is giving up on it for some reason.

So what is the solution? Live TV on Xbox One S used to be better than Shield TV but now the reverse is true because of this issue.

Does this happen if you lower the in-app quality setting to force a full transcode?

How low would I have to set it to force transcoding?

It lasted two hours without issues, as far as I know. It created a ffmpeg-transcode-73f7d0f0-b919-49b3-aaca-533f83342d48_1.txt log confirming it was transcoding.

I changed the HD HomeRuns from heavy transcode to none and now it isn't locking up at all. The Emby control panel is saying it is direct streaming. When using heavy transcode, sever remuxes (pretty sure it shouldn't be--audio is the same, Xbox One S supports AVC video natively).

It happened using transcoding none. He could hit back and it will play to the same point and stop. Had to back out of the stream then start it again.

So basically when the server transcodes it is fine? Sounds like some issues within the stream are being cleaned up by the server transcoding process, and without this, the windows video player is just not resilient enough to handle them.
