Client is Samsung 1.0.29.  Both client and NAS are hardwired to same extender.

HEVC 2160p forced transcoded to 1080p 10Mbps played smoothly

AVC 1080p forced transcoded to 720p 4Mbps played smoothly

HEVC with internal PGS subs was choppy and looks like it may have reverted to software

Hello @@Gohlas

Yes, definitely available - if you've updated DSM recently, make sure the 'show beta versions' checkbox is still ticked.

Let me know...

Best

I've loaded .72-1.  Using the internal PGS sub was still unwatchable when I played the 4K movie Inferno.  There are only 29 lines in the file, but the movie kept playing a few seconds then would display the spinner and then play another few seconds, then display the spinner again .etc, etc.  This movie plays fine when using the external srt I created myself from the internal PGS file.

Movie was direct playing per SFN with subtitle extraction on the fly set on server.

Does it need to convert the video also when just extracting/converting the internal sub?  I thought it may extract the subtitle, convert the sub to srt or something, then direct play without touching the video.

EDIT: the NAS transcodes 4K just fine when not dealing with internal subs.
