Synching of Watched Status not fully working?

Hi Emby Team and Emby Community,

first I want to say "Thank you!" for the great Emby Server and the possibility to use it together with KODI. It really makes a lot of fun.

I am writing because I'm having a little bit of trouble with the synching of the "Watched Status" of my movies.

The setup:

- I am running Emby Server on my Synology DS214+

- Emby Client (not EmbyCon) on KODI (Raspberry Pi 2)

I only wake up the Emby Server once a day for about half an hour to synch for new movies. I do this because if Emby Server is running permanently my HDDs would not go into standby because the Server and the KODI client are communicating continuously with each other. Emby Server logs that to the log file and that's why the HDDs don't go to sleep. So I thought: Okay, no problem, just run Emby Server for a short time and let it synch and update everything neccessary.

And here's the problem:

If I, for instance watch a movie in KODI with Emby Server running on the Synology and the movie has ended the watched status will be synched directly to Emby Server. So that's just working fine (also vice versa: if I change a watched status on the server it will be synched directly to the KODI database).

But, like I said, I usually watch a movie and the Emby Server is not running (I'm accessing the media files directly using path substitution). After the end of the movie the watched status will be set in KODI. If the Emby Server is started the next day for the daily synching the watched status itself will not be updated on the server. I am even rebooting KODI every day in the same time when the Emby Server is online to start the whole synching process on KODI side but that doesn't work, too. I already tried resetting the KODI database.

So is this a general problem or have I just set up something wrong?

Thank you very much for your help and please excuse if this problem has already been addressed in another thread or belongs into another category.

Stephan

There's no solution for this right now. The add-on expects your server to be online. It has no offline mode, even though you can still play content if you use native playback mode.

What you could do to work around this issue is to use the trakt addon in Kodi, and then the trakt server plugin. When watching content, the kodi trakt add-on will mark it as watched in trakt. Then, using the server trakt plugin, you can sync the status back into your server.
