CharleyVarrick 276
Hi everyone, I am considering moving my media server from my crowded home office on the 2nd floor to the basement, where there's much more open space + cooler temperature. Once setup is done, I would much prefer operate it from the slightly less crowded (but so much more inviting) home office on 2nd floor. Many of you must have a computer setup in one room, but control/operate it from other parts of the house. What are the best options considering I want it NOT to feel like remote control (ie: TeamViewer). While I do have a smartphone, its definitely not an option for me as well. I want to use a mouse, keyboard and screen. But I'd rather not fish 35-40 feet of KVM wires thru 2 floors. Also, I am referring to whole computer control, not just the Emby part. CharleyVarrick 276
@@PenkethBoy I just might have overlooked good ol RDP, within 2 minutes of seeing your reply, I was up and running with it. Just have a nagging feeling in checking off " Don't authorize connections to this PC ".
legallink 187
I use RDP regularly, but there are things I don't like about it. Biggest thing is it makes you login as an Admin. I prefer to only log in as an admin when I'm doing install/uninstall/significant modification stuff, not when I'm plunking around. However, for me, Teamviewer and similar have become non-starters because of their inability to display certain scripting types.
